Twilight mums: Why are middle-aged women falling for a big-screen vampire?
Daily Mail ^ | July 1, 2010 | Linda Papadopoulos

My friend Sarah looked me in the eye with an intensity I have rarely seen in the many years I have known her.

Then she confessed: 'I have a secret. I am in love with a 17-year-old vampire called Edward Cullen. I think about him . . . dream about him. I have his photo on my desk, and his picture is my computer screensaver.'

Worryingly, not only did I immediately know who she was talking about, but I heard myself declaring (several octaves higher than my normal speaking voice): 'I know! How amazing was it when he growled at the werewolf and protected Bella from the red-eyed vampire?'

I agree, the girls should be at least 18. ;)

LOL. Stephanie Meyer's Twilight books, which I loved BTW, have added Heaven knows how much to this nation's GDP. God bless her :)

No different from the cult-like devotion that put the 47-year-old vampire into the White House in 2008.

It's role reversal. A young guy sucking the life blood out of an older woman.

To see the reverse, just go to any courtroom where a divorce trial is going on.

last year, a woman I work with started showing a bit of interest in me. (I’m no casanova, but there’s no accounting for some things, I guess.) It might have gone somewhere, but she was one of those grownup twilight fanatics, and it was an immediate turnoff. The lady I’m seeing now has no interest whatsoever in vampires—nor Sex and the City either, for that matter. I’m very fortunate.

Yea, one of those “twilight moms” called the police on my daughter and her friends becuase they saved a space in line for 2 others so they could sit together at the midnight movie. The 2 did move to the end of the line, but left their sweatshirts so the girls could save their seats anyway.

She said some LADY got all bent out of shape... LMAO!

>>>> "No different from the cult-like devotion that put the 47-year-old vampire into the White House in 2008." <<<<

The Cult of Personality in politics, and the Cult of Celebrity in popular culture . . . . .

Didn't middleaged women also faun all over their movie star idols from Hollywood in the 1930s? Wasn't that the SAME type of fanfare as here?

I think it's distasteful and representative of a vapid insipid immature population, but I'm not sure that this is anything remotely 'new.' And I think that it correlates with the huge segment of adults who are addicted to televised serial soap operas, but I might be mistaken.
