The Plame Affair, Hollywood Style
judithmiller.com ^ | 12/09/2010 | Judith Miller

I went to jail in the summer of 2005 to protect the identity of a confidential source who spoke to me about Valerie Plame, the former CIA spy whose identity was disclosed after her husband publicly challenged part of the evidence that President Bush cited to justify his invasion of Iraq. I'm the only person to have gone to jail in what became known as Plamegate. But you wouldn't know it from the recently released movie "Fair Game."

There is no character based on me in the film—and that turns out to be a good thing. Although the movie is brilliantly acted, it is also a gross distortion of a complicated political saga.

Based on books by Joseph C. Wilson IV and his wife, Ms. Plame, the film purports to be what Mr. Wilson has called a "fair and accurate" rendition of the story. According to their view, her name was leaked by White House apparatchiks to punish Mr. Wilson for challenging the Bush administration's case for war.

Not only is there no character based on Judith Miller, which seems remarkably odd considering she actually went to jail for not disclosing her source, there is no character based on, let alone named, Richard Armitage - the guy who actually "leaded" Plame's name.

This is Hollywood's "reality".

Hey, it wasn't just Armitage. Colin Powell ratted her out as well ~ on an airplane ~ when he was Secretary of State.

"W" fired both of them!

Asked about the film's accuracy by the Washington Post, Mr. Wilson gave this review: "For people who have short memories or don't read, this is the only way they will remember the period." Precisely.

Oh, my - that is good. BTT.

Right on, Judith Miller. Stick to those bloodsuckers. They’re liars. “Plame” and simple.

"I love the drain it puts on your profits."

This movie was made independently (for roughly $20M), and distributed (in the US) by Summit. Summit also happens to be the distributor for a little franchise called "Twilight". Fair Game has generated about $8M domestic, and another $8M international. Not counting marketing and distribution costs, it's still in the black. Counting those additional costs, it's WAY in the black. It might make some of that up on Cable/DVD, but it's pretty clear that ultimately it's going to be a loser. However, every time a teenager goes to see one the crap Twilight movies, this is the other crap that underwrites.

How much top-line revenue has Summit generated just on the Twilight franchise? Almost $790M, and that's only domestic boxoffice, not including foreign BO (under $790M+) or DVD. Summit can afford to underwrite a whole lot more "Fair Game"s.

Hollywood sells junk to our kids, so they can then in turn use those profits to offset their losses on political propaganda pieces like this one.

I knew there was a reason we’ve never seen one of those twilight movies.
Thanks for the info.

Whenever liberals spin history, in film or in person ...

patriotic American people rise up and say, YOU LIE! (the honest Joe Wilson).

Don’t you mean “in the red?” Red is for losing money.

Much as I admire “W”, I will never forgive him for his refusal to pardon Scooter Libby. Dick Cheney is absolutely right. He left one of our guys on the battlefield.

I have a rather tin-foil-hat theory that Judith Miller sent herself white powder after 9/11 to sell more books and gain attention. After all these years, I still can’t shake my hunch on that one.

Scooter seems to have been left out of the loop regarding who had ratted out Plame, so when Fitzgerald decided he had to have at least an elderly Jewish Republican to blame (most likely so he couldn't be accused of being antisemitic if he eventually had to go after Democrat plaything Plame herself to bring this to an end), Scooter was set to LIE TO HIM (his investigator), and he did. He actually thought he was protecting his peeps.

BTW, Fitzgerald's act was certainly anti-semitic in that he shouldn't have been picking up Jewish fall guys anyway.

Amazingly people accuse Pat Buchanan of antisemitism yet he's never sought out an elderly Jewish guy to send to prison just so he could justify sending a Jewish woman to prison. It's obvious Pat is a novice at the game ~ makes me wonder how Fitzgerald handles things in Chicago.

One of the reasons to constantly reiterate the truth on Free Republic is that there are people who have a long term interest in making a complete backup of most everything that's posted here.

This will be an important part of the "record" for the future. The Wilson/Plame "make believe" film won't. It leaves all the loose ends loose and researchers will certainly want to straighten things out.

I am a puzzled by your reply. I happen to know Scooter, and I can’t imagine anyone describing him as an “elderly Jewish guy.” He certainly isn’t elderly, and I don’t even know that he is Jewish. One can accuse Fitzgerald of many bad things in the course of his “investigation,” but I don’t think anti-semitism is one of them.
