The one thing that was uncalled for, to me, was the lady who asked the black guy if he had any kids “that he wanted to claim”. Don’t leftists call such rhetoric “racist”?
Imputing the black cultural norm of out-of-wedlock birth to an individual black dude one doesn’t know is arguably racist, but it appears this woman was snarking at him, not seriously saying that since he’s black, he must have kids born out of wedlock, so an accusation of racism would be more tenuous. I appreciate the temptation for conservatives to put the shoe on the other foot by accusing liberals of anti-black racism, but I think we’d be wise to avoid that except when the evidence is incontrovertible. Whenever conservatives accuse liberals of racism against blacks, we legitimize that use of the race card, something that will inevitably come back to haunt us, since that particular race card is far more often deployed against us than liberals. Let us keep our heads about us and choose those fights where we stand to gain, and avoid thankless fights when we can.
