That carries a fine of as much as $140. Or 14,000 pennies.

LOL, I hope he does it again.

I thought that currency was currency. Is paying a bill with pennies a message of sorts? Yeah. But money is money.

Yep, fight it in court and pay any resultant fine in pennies.

Pennies are LEGAL TENDER in all 57 States.

I wonder if anyone has paid their rent in pennies on the front lawn.

Someone should explain how paying a bill in legal American currency constitutes “disorderly conduct”. He is paying his disputed bill and he paid for it.

Sometimes I think it’s a shame when you feel like you’re winning...but your losing again.

I can’t remember the singer...it may have been Gordon Lightfoot.

Legal overreach. It’s legal tender. And there are coin-counting machines at many banks and grocery stores. Personally, I think it’s a waste of valuable copper over fiat-currency paper, but to each his own.

Who the hell cited this man for using lawful currency for paying of a bill? What disgusting nazi from the pit of hell thinks its okay to cite him becuase a priave institution was ticked off at method of payment?

Further, who is the government to dictate how any debt is paid for? I have seen this nazi garbage before where a tax bill was paid in 1 dollar bills and they cited the man for not paying with a specific check. Bullcrap...the government does not get to dictate terms so as to avoid being called out for being wrong.

It is legal currency, he can say that if they didn’t want to accept his legal currency, that is their choice to write-off his debt.

I would get a lawyer and sue the Doctor’s Office for failing to take U.S. tender and then explain to the court the office failed to take money back by the U.S Government, so thus the charges have to be thrown out.

Washers cost 10 cents apiece. A penny with a hole driled in it makes a great washer and will never rust.

It’s not legal of course and I would never do such a thing.

I think all currency is legal to use, if I’m not mistaken. But it is the obligation of the business to make it work.

A business has the right to refuse the form of payment the customer wishes to use. A business could, if it wanted to do so, accept payments only in Russian rubles.

A smart business will be as flexible as they can be, but it was their right to not accept any particular form of payment they do not wish to accept.

I would guess the guy made a major jerk of himself while giving them the pennies. Reading the article confirm by thought.

“Assistant Vernal Police Chief Keith Campbell says that after asking staff members whether they accepted cash, West dumped 2,500 pennies on the counter and demanded that staff count them.

Campbell says the incident upset staff because pennies were strewn about the counter and floor, and West’s action served “no legitimate purpose.” “

Is a penny not legal tender? What’s the problem? Unless there’s more to it (shot his mouth off, too) I’d take that defense case!
