Pro Creators: Sperm Donors Are Dads to Dozens
Fox News & New York Post ^ | June 19, 2011 | unkonwn

When he was a cash-strapped college student 20 years ago, Todd Whitehurst didn't think too deeply on the consequences of donating sperm. Then, when he was 41, he got an e-mail from a girl named Virginia. "She said, basically, 'I'm 14, and I think I'm your daughter,' " explained Whitehurst, now a 45-year-old medical engineer. Shortly after, he found a son, Tyler, now 14. And another, Gavin, now 16. That led to another child, and another, and yet another. "It was definitely overwhelming," Whitehurst said. "I'm not even sure how many children there are." So far he has found nine kids sired by his sperm. Statistically speaking, said one biogeneticist, Whitehurst could be the father of 42 to 60 children. Thanks to a lack of industry regulation, high totals are all too probable, especially for prolific college kids like Whitehurst -- who donated weekly for about three years, for $50 a pop, at a clinic on the Stanford University campus in the 1980s and '90s.

First we had puppy mills - but at least the AKC registered the litters!!!!!

I always found this both disgusting and terrifying. Does not the Bible admonish men to "not spill their seed"?

Wisdom - lost for the ages.

I think the real issue in that story was the treatment of the wife and the husbands refusal to let her have a child, not the spilling of seed per se.

This would fall under sex outside of wedlock and bringing life into the world without providing the fathering that was meant to be.

At $50/pop, child support forever.

I don’t like it.

Correct: Genesis 38:9-10.

However, the rationale is comparable.

God created Adam & Eve (men & women) with natural laws to pass down to their descendants.

Medical manipulation and lasciviousness have destroyed those golden rules.

Incest by proxy, adolescent promiscuity, revolving shack-ups or multiple ‘marriages’, lack of male parenting and homosexuality are all contributing to the destruction of a Godly society.

Don' take it out of context. A man didn't impregnate his wife. The child would be a forefather in the line of David and thus of Christ. If no child was born to this woman then that line never would have been.

Lays it out well...TAMAR, FOREMOTHER OF DAVID

From the link:

***He never wanted to be a parent; he saw the sperm donation as a favor to a friend.***

Obviously, he didn’t take biology classes.

(good link Impy; another example of the chaos that is our children’s cross to bear)

Got to remember that also in the same book of Genesis, Abraham, seeing that his wife Sarah did not have a child, Sarah directed Abraham to father a child via Hagar, the maid-servant.

At least in the ‘hood the guys do it the old fashioned way.

I’ve said for 40+ years sperm donation is a mistake.
Their must be enough sperm on ice to repopulation the world.

At some point the sexual act will be omitted from procreation. :(

...lack of male parenting...
Don't women deserve the same treatment? Isn't lack of female parenting just as culpable in your scenario? Isn't abortion as birth control by women just as contemptible?

If you're going to bash men why not do it openly instead of doing it obliquely with so little subtlety?

The moral of the story:

A man & women should marry until death, in order to raise children of that marriage together. Be faithful, so that parentage & family values are established.

I believe we can attest that biological fathers and mothers are naturally driven to treasure & protect their own offspring. It helps if they know with certainty who those children might be.

It is terrifying to note the increase in child abuse, child abductions and murders by ‘extended’ family members. Might this be the result of ‘mixed up’ maternal and paternal proxies? i.e. New York adoptive parents-Steinbergs, Kyron Horman, Caylee Anthony et.al.

Don’t get all huffy.

Young man in my family impregnated his long-term live-in girl friend. He belatedly begged her to marry him - but she took off (out of country) with the child and he has no resources or recourse to custody. He and his parents are devastated.

Marriage protects men, women and children.

Whitehurst could be the father of 42 to 60 children

And in all likelihood those children all live in the same geographic area. I wonder what the odds are of two of them meeting and, not knowing that they're half-siblings, ending up in a relationship that results in marriage?

Good link to a bad story. Both parents pushing 50. A gay dad that “doesn’t feel paternal” toward his son and the dad’s male lover. The new American family? I hope not.
