Liberal groups are seriously pushing this too. They are passing around messages that social security check will stop, the military won't get paid, police will be fired, etc. They are scaring people, especially targeting the old folks. I have an old neighbor who luckily is smart and can see through it, but said she has many friends who are breaking down crying every day and literally shaking in fear because they are told they won't get any more social security check or their 'pills' will get cut off after August 2nd. AARP along with other groups are pushing this hard. They are also having pushing this on social media sites getting old people to 'spread the word'. It is sick.

I don’t remember anywhere in the Constitution, language which contemplates the suspension of same. In the absence of a declaratory power, the government is not authorized. At least that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

From what I have determined, we are still under martial law since Congress never rescinded it after 9-ll. Furthermore, the Addends of Continuity of Government in the Revision of the Homeland Security Act of 2007 gives the president authority to become a military dictator without congressional approval in case of another attack or riots and insurrection in the streets. I think he actually wants this to happen before the 2012 elections, but I hope I’m wrong. Reid seems to be predicting something like that. Dems leadership have stopped all Dem support of anything Boehner does regarding debt limits.

I remember all through Clinton's presidency, reading posts where he was supposedly one day away from declaring martial law or he was going to declare martial law so he didn't have to leave office in 2000 etc. I remember the same posts by the left on DU and DailyKos about Bush during his presidency.

The fact of the matter is no President, Democrat or Republican, is going to declare martial law for anything short of a foreign invasion or massive internal uprising. Quite frankly, because any president who did it for a "trivial" or "political" reason, would immediately see their approval rating cut in half. Be savaged by both the liberal and conservative media. See massive protests all over the country. See impeachment proceeding start in the congress. And most have likely have their orders simply ignored by military leaders and police forces across the country.
