Heisman Projection: It's Griffin, with 71% of a perfect score
Stiff Arm Trophy ^ | December 8, 2011 | Kari Chisholm

By now, this won't be a surprise to anyone: Baylor's Robert Griffin III is going to win the Heisman Trophy.

By our reckoning, he's going to get approximately 2000 points - 71% of a perfect unanimous #1 vote. (This year, 2781 points is perfect.) That total would rank Griffin among the top 15 all-time biggest winners of the Heisman Trophy - roughly on par with Tim Tebow (70.5%) and Doug Flutie (71.1%).

The Iowa caucuses are just a few weeks away but one race will be decided tomorrow when the Heisman Trophy is awarded. The source cited in this post is known for the accuracy of its prediction. We'll see in about 30 hours if Baylor's Robert Griffin III wins the award given to the most outstanding player in collegiate football.

In my opinion, RG3 certainly deserves it for his on-field performance. Plus I'd like to see Baylor, a private, Christian (Southern Baptist) university with Ken Starr as president get the attention of football fans everywhere. In a year where Tim Tebow is making headlines (and frustrating liberals everywhere) in the pros, it would be great to have Baylor net its first ever Heisman. The liberals (Lou Holtz being an exception) at ESPN/Disney will not be pleased with Baylor getting honored.

I’ve seen him play a few times this year. He is simply an amazing football player.

RG3 I think is the correct winner of the Heisman. As much as the SEC and PAC-12 want to disagree, the competition in the Big 12 was much more competitive across the board. Plus, Baylor played TCU on its nonconference schedule. The schedules Andrew Luck and Trent Richardson played were a joke, except their respective showdowns with Oregon and LSU, where neither was stellar. Mattheiu should probably finish 2nd for LSU and Ball should get 3rd, but that will be closer than the difference between 1 and 2.

Baylor's Robert Griffin III is going to win the Heisman Trophy.

Griffin is a very good choice and will do honor to the trophy.

RG3 should be the winner going away.

RG3's reaction in this tipped-ball play in the Oklahoma game is an unforgettable highlight of his career. It's Griffin's Doug Flutie moment.

As a Baylor grad, this is very exciting. Best of luck to him!

I'm a Sooner fan, but I knew the game was over after that play. I'd vote for him if I had a vote. A remarkable player and from all accounts, a remarkable human being.

I’m confused; just watched the video of that remarkable play and it was Kendall Wright who caught it and ran it, correct? Or did I just miss something?

So...reacting to a fluke play is what makes him worthy of a Heisman?

Don't get me wrong, RGIII is a great player and a nice story. But Wisonsin RB Montee Ball has had a far, far better season. Ball led the NCAA in rushing yards and leads the entire known universe in TD's.

Not at all. His entire body of work at Baylor is what makes Robert Griffin III entitled to the honor.

I highlighted that particular play because of the character it revealed about him. So many players (particularly those at state-run schools) would have weaufed, pointed to themselves and made it all about them. RG3's reaction showed that he realized things just fell into place. In that regard, Griffin reminds me of Tim Tebow who deflects the glory from himself and rightly gives it to God and his teammates.

In the interests of full disclosure:

1. I have not seen RGIII play. Not even on SportsCenter,
2. I am a triple Badger.

So, I’d love to see Montee Ball win.

As a Baylor grad, this is very exciting.

I certainly realize that the Heisman Trophy is about college football and the accomplishments of an individual player. It doesn't rise to the level of what has to be done to vote Obama out of office this coming November.

Still, it will be sweet to see Griffin get the trophy for these reasons:

1). Baylor is a Christian institution.
2). Baylor's president is Ken Starr.
3). Baylor is a private school, not state-run.
4). And it's in Texas, a pro-God, pro-gun, right-to-work state.

Those four things will frustrate the liberals to no end! So apart from RG3 himself, aren't those enough to hope he wins?

Well said! Much excitement in the whole community about RG3. Baylor has always had a great relationship with the city of Waco, they are good neighbors and community partners. We are all pulling for him. It’s been great to see their football program take off and see good things happen for a hard working local athlete.

LaWoman3, ping to local excitement.

I'm pinging Allegra because, like me, she's been all over the world. My work has taken me from Tokyo to Tacoma to Turkey and all points in between.

Yet, when I'm in one of those far-flung places, it's Texas that draws me back home. And I'll admit to having a special place for Waco because it's truly in the heart of Texas. The Texas Rangers Museum and the Dr (no period) Pepper Museum are favorites. And there's plenty of fine eating (steaks in particular) at the many restaurants in and around Waco.

A few years ago when Ken Starr opted to relocate from Malibu (Pepperdine) to Waco (Baylor), there was stuned reaction -- even here on Free Republic. I've been to Malibu and I've been to Waco. Malibu: You're no Waco! Malibu may have the Pacific but Waco has the people, friendly, pro-God and pro-gun all the way.

...or at least that's the way I see it.

Thanks for the ping. I’m quite fond of Waco. I had friends there and I used to go to the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo every fall for several years in the late 90s.

I also always stopped by the Dr Pepper Museum to get a case of those original recipe drinks in the old-fashioned bottles.

And Heitmiller’s steak house - oh, yeah! I was last there in ‘09 on my way to a TCM shoot in the Ft. Worth area.

I like the Waco area - a very nice slice of Americana and very Texan with the Chisholm Trail remnants, two rivers and all of those cattle ranches.

I like it here too. This is my second time to live here — God keeps pulling me back I guess. Both of you FReepmail me if you are ever in the area and we’ll go to George’s for a Big O, then on to Heitmiller’s for a chicken fried steak followed by a Blue Bell float at the Dr (no period) Pepper Museum for dessert.
