It sounds like some city folk moved to the country to get away from it all and found there was a different “it all” already there. When they complained about it, the farmer searched for some cheap, smelly food to send the whiners crying to the “city” authorities.

Similar things have been happening in the US too with similar results. When you move to the country, you should expect things to be (and smell) different. You should not expect the country folk to cater to your wishes at the expense of their livelihood.

People who want to “live in the country” but not BE in the country-— so therefore locals MUST change. Happens all the time in the US particularly to hunters and horsepeople.

There were several pig farms that got harassed by developers in my valley because the rich folks didn't like the smell of a pig farm near their fancy new houses. It seemed pretty unfair to me a family farm minding their business for generations and suddenly they are the problem because high end homes go up around them. I have nothing again beautiful homes or pig farms but it seemed that the pig farmer gets porked in such situations.

When you move to the country, you should expect things to be (and smell) different. You should not expect the country folk to cater to your wishes at the expense of their livelihood.

In my county, home buyers must sign a disclosure stating that they understand that this is an agricultural county, and certain odors may occasionally be present as a result. My guess is that the disclosure became a requirement when some city slickers tried to sue because they'd never lived in an area with farms before.
