Two researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College have deciphered a mouse's retina's neural code and coupled this information to a novel prosthetic device to restore sight to blind mice. The researchers say they have also cracked the code for a monkey retina -- which is essentially identical to that of a human -- and hope to quickly design and test a device that blind humans can use.

Oh, my goodness... what amazing discoveries!
The farmer’s wife will never catch them now.
OMG!
Three blind mice?
LOL! You know, I can’t even bear to look at a rodent, but bless their little eyeballs... I pray this research will, in future, help the blind to see.
So many of us old farts face the prospect of macular degeneration years before the rest of the body fails I hope the technology is developed and is relatively cheap...
My older brother lost his eyesight completely in his 20s from diabetic retinopathy (was identified with juvenile diabetes at 18 months old). He is now 44. What an amazing thought that his sight could one day be restored! Thanks for posting!
Praise God.

My son and I have Retinitis Pigmentosa. I have lived with it with little ill effect for nearly 40 years. My son, however has lost peripheral vision to a certain extent as well as lousy night vision. He’s 15 now and we took him to the Secretary of State for an eye test to see if he would be eligible to drive. He failed. It is my fervent hope that these treatments become widely available and successful. We live in miraculous times!
WOWOWOW!
Spectacular, magnificent, wonderful.

A Quote by Walt Whitman. "A mouse is a miracle enough to stagger quintillions of infidels". Walt Whitman (1819 - 1892).
I'm with you - probably won't be cheap, but sight is the single most important sense for getting around in the world. I have a left eye that was pretty much trashed after a total retinal detachment and would pay a lot to have good vision in that eye. If I had both eyes going bad, any price I could manage would be worth it.
Yes, they are. Thank you for reminding me, Does so, through Walt Whitman’s words, the miracle that is “Brother Mouse”.
