NYCC 2012: “Robotech” Panel Report
Toonzone ^ | 10/13/2012 | Ed Liu

Harmony Gold’s Kevin McKeever hosted the Robotech Panel at New York Comic Con 2012, giving a quick rundown of the state of the Robotech universe before opening up the bulk of the panel to audience Q&A (and giving away a pretty hefty pile of Robotech swag to people asking questions). He quickly breezed through the many properties available now, including the original anime

(snip)

So, repeat after me: Tobey Maguire is attached only to produce the movie, and the rumors that he will be playing Rick Hunter are not true. Until the script is finished, discussions about directors, actors, or mecha design are way too premature. McKeever did add later that Warner Brothers is looking at Robotech as comparable to the Harry Potter franchise, so they’ll ultimately make as much Robotech live-action as they think the market can stand.

If anything comes of this I hope the hippie characters inspire as much hatred as in the cartoon :)

Who’s going to be Minmei? And are they going to sing?

Sorry, don’t remember much about robo tech. I saw one movie ages ago. And it was in Japanese.

“...so they’ll ultimately make as much Robotech live-action as they think the market can stand.”

They better check, I have a vague recollection of a live-action Macross that nobody (including me, apparently) remembers - maybe for good reasons

One of my great disappointments of the Macross series was that Lynn-Kyle wasn’t wasted by Khyron, or one of the other Zentraedi invaders that he kept favoring over his own people.

Lynn Kyle was one character I could have lived without.
