ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. spearheaded an effort Thursday to bring together retailers, suppliers and government officials so they can figure out how to bring more manufacturing jobs to the United States.

This is a couple months old, but I just saw this now.

America has exported our Manufacturing base.

This is damaging, because it means we send so many jobs to other countries, and American are now unemployed.

We need jobs. Lots of jobs. Good jobs.

Bring back American jobs.

I applaud any effort in this direction as long as at least the same effort is made to curtail and eliminate illegal immigration. Otherwise our pathetic pols will use it as more ammo as to why we need to let more immigrants into the country when there are already plenty of able bodied Americans sitting on their butts collecting entitlements who could be doing the work.

A tight rope to walk. China has made Walmart big. My other favorite quote:Walmart has done more to fight poverty than any government program.

I try to buy American whenever I can. I was at WalMart yesterday buying a hand scrub brush and a pail. The offerings near the bushes were molded plastic pails with plastic handles. $2 or less. CHINA

The other pail I remember seeing was Rubber Maid over in Auto section. It was just under $8 with a metal handle with plastic handgrab.

I bought the Rubber Maid. I was hoping until just now that it was American made. BUT! I now read the label and see it says “assembled in America, made with Chinese, Italian and American parts”......just what in the hell is that?

Stamped/bent metal holder from Italy affixed to an extruded Chinese bucket, topped off by a label printed in America?

I’m not unhappy with the quality and I’m confident the pail will not fail with a broken handle if I overload it, but just-damn...

American businesses have for an entire generation, sold off American businesses.

An entire generation.

To a gigantic country with five times our population, and a closed system which takes, and does not give back.

Bring back American manufacturing.

Bring back American jobs.

Now.

We didn’t export them.

We priced ourselves out of those jobs, while always expecting “affordable” goods at the same time. All the while suffocating these companies in regulations and taxes.

We got too picky, and there was a whole nation to our west full of people willing to work for less to make the goods we demand cost less. And a billion of them to buy whatever was leftover.

If people want “good” jobs, then start a company. Otherwise this is the muck we made, and we might as well get used to the smell.

I'm all for buying American, but I'll avoid companies to the best of my ability that I believe heavily promote leftist ideals. Apple is one, not that they make anything here anyway.

OTOH, companies like Chick Fila I'll continue to patronize.

Thank you Laz.

This thread has narrowed down the problem facing America.

Part of America wants to fix what we have now. The other part of America wants it to collapse and rebuild.

That is exactly the problem.

America is frozen.

The democrats keep destroying things here, and the GOP keeps removing pieces from the American playing field, to keep them from being destroyed.

There is however a (big) problem with letting America collapse.

Several in fact.

First off, America is now no longer the largest economy. China is the largest economy, so if we collapse now we just make China even stronger.

Second off, America has a vast array of mixed races. Many of which will fight each other.

No I do not believe a civil war, or another revolutionary war, will create anything. It will destroy what has been the world’s (history’s even) premier civilization.

What we need is to stop exporting jobs, bring them back, and make the world a democracy.

China is not democratic.

Yet we have exported our entire manufacturing base, there.

Bring it back.

I'm not saying this is what I desire.

I am saying that this is what is, and what will it will be.

It is now permissible for chickens that are raised in America to be processed in China and labeled MADE IN AMERICA.

I, for one, plan to buy locally raised chickens in the future.

Hey WalMart... Its called TARIFFS...that’s how you bring jobs back to America

Free Trade doesn’t work. Not a single shred of fact or evidence proves it works. Free Trade is pushed by liberals and liberal universities. The Al Gore School of Economics is as bad as the Al Gore School of Science

Our Founding Fathers and their descendants had tariff based economy for 140 yrs...and the US grew from a bunch of farmers to the largest industrial nation in the world. We went from tariffs and jobs to Free Trade and Socialism

At least, Wal Mart, is seeing some light. Have to make sure that these “Made in America” jobs are filled by Americans, and not Illegal Aliens or H1B visa foreigners

I one was at a Wal*Mart looking for an ordinary crank style portable can opener. The cheap ones were made in China... and a virtually identical Swing-A-Way model was American made. I opted to support American jobs.

I used to be able to do this with socks. Wigwam black work socks in Wal*mart were available if you looked hard enough that were Made in U.S.A., but that ended... I had to change style and brand, and the store I bought socks from. New Balance had a black sock that Sears sold that was USA... but the last time I was in Sears the same product had a sticker over the top of the UPC that said they are now “Hechoed” en Mexico.

For the past 30yrs or more, starting a manufacturing business has been more difficult and costly year after year, where today it is almost impossible, due to overbearing gov’t regulation and taxes.

Add to that the fact you can’t hire who you want, or contract for wages you want to pay and a legal force inventing opportunity to sue.

I say strip regulation and taxation to bear bones, allow Caveat Emptor to control the free market, and manufacturing will quickly return.

I wholeheartedly agree with both of these posts.

We need America-protecting tariffs.

And we need to strip regulation way, way down.

But what is most important is, we need to do this now.

America is facing a very big challenge right now.

If we do not fix it, we will be lost forever.

FIX IT.

That means you too GOP.

Stop sending American businesses all over the globe, except for right here where they grew up.

Bring back American businesses.

Now.
