the man is legend
almost two whole months
Too bad. His show was very entertaining. I have sirius/xm and his show and 80’s on the 8 were the main things I liked to listen.
I totally loved that show.
I miss his old fill-ins too.
Is he still in the Philippines?
Does anyone have his bumper music?

Beowulf9 your link doesn’t work and I could find nothing about Art Bell quitting.
This really sucks because Sirius and Clear Channel had a falling out last month that resulted in Talk America being dropped by Sirius XM. So there’s no Coast to Coast with George Noory on satellite radio, and now no Art Bell Dark Matter.
Time to consider dropping my two XM subscriptions.
One of the first guests was “doctor” jonathan reed- who hd this incredible story and photos of an alien he encountered in the woods- it was an amazing story at first... until this time he changed it
Now he claimed the alien used to come visit him from time to time, over the last decade or so, and when he first caught it, it would come out of his freezer and have little chats with him... you could tell even art was no longer buying it and seemed extremely disappointed.
East of the Rockies, you’re on the line...
Doesn’t Art Bell still own a piece of Coast to Coast AM?
This from his Twitter Account as to what led up to this:
“Art makes an important announcement concerning the future of the show. Hes concerned that the SiriusXM streaming mobile app and web player are not up to the job (1001 errors) and suggests that we (artbell.com) serve the program LIVE using other Internet streaming protocols (Icecast), to allow a more favorable listening experience and to allow the streaming of the LIVE program for FREE all over the world.
You would still use your SiriusXM subscription to listen to the archives on demand, and be able to download programs with your SiriusXM mobile app to listen while off line. The LIVE program would be available for 4 hours each of the 4 days a week via an alternative streaming service, on ArtBell.com, allowing a larger audience to call in and participate.”
OK now things get interesting.
I can absolutely see Art going head-to-head against the regular show.
And I would listen to one, or the other, depending on who they had on.
Never would listen to Art when his show was pay-only, I certainly hope he’s back in the (free) radio market now.
Go Art.
Just got off the phone with sirius to cancel my subscription i made sure to tell them the art bell show being taken off was the reason i canceled my subscription. For those of you that are interested sirius will refund prorated for canceling your subscription. I really hope you come back on the air one way or another have you considered this? maybe podomatic or americanfreedomradio? or perhaps just start your own site to stream from? I myself would definitely pay for a subscription to hear you on air. Sorry to hear you are no longer on the air hope you come back soon. And if not it was a pleasure being able to hear you for the couple months you were back.
Art sent out a couple of emails to those who wrote him about the cancellation. They are the same. This is a copy:
“I started the show with the expectation that my listener’s would be able to stream the show since most were coming from AM.
They started the thirty day trial and found that it was dropping out on them every few minutes. After the 30 day trial most did not renew, why would they? Faced with paying about $180 bucks a Year for something that was not working right, what would you do?
So I lost my base. My show is based on call in, if all I am left with is Truck drivers with cell phones going down the road at 70 MPH, well you get the idea. So I asked Sirius to allow free streaming for a Year until they could fix their problems and they said no. The show was simply not viable under these conditions.
Art”
I loved most of the topics he discussed. The one I really couldn't stand, though, was the guy who played snippets of recordings backwards and claimed to hear messages in them. They were so stupid. I would scream, inside my head, "Make the guy ask Art what is being said, not tell us before he plays it what it says." He was planting the suggestion of what it said in an unintelligible garble.
Later, the guys who recorded ghosts would do the same thing. Art would never ask them to play first, and then see if we would hear it the same way without being told what it said.
But otherwise, great entertainment.
Must be the aliens.
He wasn’t cancelled. According to Talkers magazine, he got frustrated with SiriusXM’s online player being unreliable as well as SiriusXM satellite and online streaming being unavailable outside of the US and Canada. He wasn’t in complete control of his content, specifically the podcasts which were controlled by SiriusXM. I don’t know why he didn’t think of any of this before he signed an agreement with SXM. Because the online product is subscription based. You have to subscribe to it to hear it. And like the BBC iPlayer in Great Britain, you have to be in the US and Canada (SiriusXM’s market area) to hear it.
FYI!

More Details From Art Regarding New Show

Hi there,
So much speculation, GOOD! What we are going to do should be a blast in my opinion. Just think about it three hours a night to play with any topic we wish, lots of open lines and NEW Guests. No restrictions on topics. VERY few commercials.
The live streaming will be FREE for both National and thank goodness, International listeners. We will provide incoming phone lines as well as Skype connections.
I am sure some topics will be loved by some and hated by others, it is never possible to please everybody all the time, that is one of the first things any Talk Host must learn. Some of my best shows were filled with computer messages in the first hour or so that said things like dump this jerk and go to open lines but by the end of the show people were saying Gee Art that was one of your best shows ever. On the other hand sometimes the jerk HAD to dumped for open lines. Many times some of the BEST shows came from open lines. That is the magic!
No program can exist on NO income so we will depend on some aspects that we can charge for that will include the ability to download the show once it has aired, perhaps the ability to send a fast blast, and any other goodies we can throw in to perhaps ask for five bucks a Month from those willing to help, but make no mistake the live stream will be free, I want NO limits on the possible number of people who can tune in.
