USAF absolutely frickin' notorious for bouncing Majors with 14-17 years service. Gettin'em out before they are due real pensions saves them a ton'o'money, makes room for Affirmative Action promotions, and makes room for recruiting at the lowest ranks.
If you are a non-rated (i.e. not a flyer) officer, a white man, are passed over for promotion to the Lt. Col. step, AND you have 12 years in, get a real estate license, now!
