Most of those stars from Hollywood’s golden age were , if not Republican, fairly conservative by today’s standards. They treated acting as a craft.

Personally, I have NEVER known a Conservative who so readily and unrestrainedly expresses himself/herself with the kind of gratuitous and malicious vulgarity as Liberals do when they find themselves challenged by Conservative views. It's like they can't help themselves. The most educated and rational Liberal spontaneously forgets himself/hrself and is reduced to a babbling moron when they talk about Conservatism.
