Climate Change Could Mean No Guac For You — At Least At Chipotle
TIME ^ | March 4, 2014 | David Winograd

Bad news for burrito lovers: Chipotle warned in its latest annual report that climate change might lead it to leave guacamole out of its burritos and bowls.

The chain blames the possible change on higher prices. “In the event of cost increases with respect to one or more of our raw ingredients we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients.”

The company acknowledged such a move would be a massive disappointment to some of its customers. But, as ThinkProgress points out, considering the company uses about 97,000 pounds of avocados each day, it might not be able to stomach a price increase that could be brought on by global warming.

LOL. Avocados need warm weather. If MMGW was real, it would bring the price down. I notice nobody at Chipolte claimed price increases were do to global warming. Apparently that little piece of spin came from ThinkProgress, whoever they may be.

Hell, there might be global warming or for that matter global cooling. I like to call it global climate.

As long as the bastards don’t make up crap to blame ME for it, I could care less. I hate Guac anyway.

Where do they get their Avacados from? California? If so, no global warming involved, just man-made drought choking off the farmers.

Saw avocados on sale at Walmart today. They were half the price of a couple weeks ago.

While not particularly popular, the avocado tree can be grown domestically and used as a (decorative) houseplant. The pit germinates in normal soil conditions or partially submerged in a container of water. In the latter method, the pit sprouts in four to six weeks, at which time it is planted in fertile soil such as potting soil. The plant normally grows large enough to be prunable; however, it does not bear fruit unless it has ample sunlight. Home gardeners can graft a branch from a fruit-bearing plant to speed maturity, which typically takes four to six years to bear fruit. To obtain fresh avocado produce, however, more than one tree must be cultivated for crosspollination.

Hmm.... Meaning you could grow these in green houses in salt mines as they are warm and provided with enough artificial light

No, see, global warming is to blame for our polar surges. It’s also to blame for our higher temps too. Sometimes you can’t tell because temps are within the normal range, but bet money it’s because of global warming. Everything is because of global warming.

Global warming is the left’s new god. And it’s a male god because it’s hurting earth mother gaia. maybe even raping gaia.

Awwww..

I did like their food and they just put one in close enough for me to visit once in awhile.

Guess I’ll just have to go back to making my own guac (Which really is better, but sometimes a woman needs a night out of the kitchen!)

KK <— who is now off to make broiled spicy pork with pineapple, sweet red pepper rice, and a wilted escarole and apple salad for dinner.
