An experimental drug has shown encouraging results in treating advanced breast cancer in an early clinical trial, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer reported Sunday.

Pfizer, the world’s second largest drugmaker, said the drug prevented breast cancer from worsening for 20.2 months in a trial involving 165 patients. Current medications do so for 10.2 months. The drug, known as palbociclib, is among a new class of cancer drugs that target specific proteins to block tumors. …

There hasn’t been a “cure” for anything since polio. Too much money to be made.

The Salk and Sabin polio vaccines didn't cure polio.
They prevented it.

I’ve been amazed to see how large the medical research community has become, especially in places like Houston. Often wondered where all these people would work if they actually had to get a real job and not be funded by the never ending availability of research grants. Maybe they would have to discover some new diseases.

Reclast (zoledronic acid) is used to treat Paget’s disease, high blood levels of calcium caused by cancer (hypercalcemia of malignancy, multiple myeloma (a type of bone marrow cancer) or cancer that has spread from elsewhere in the body to the bone, to treat or prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, and to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. It is also used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in people who will be taking certain steroid medicines for 12 months or longer. It is in a group of medicines called bisphosphonates. Common side effects include nausea, tiredness, flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, chills, muscle/joint aches), dizziness, headache, or pain/redness/swelling at the injection site. Most of these side effects occur within 3 days of treatment.

I’ve listed the 2 most common since I take both. 30 yrs on Synthroid. No one told me about the bone density issue with it, I am 65 so have Drug Induced OP that could have been slowed or prevented. My back takes the brunt of injuries so far.

BTW what is the cost of 1,100 People to KIDNEY FAILURE, JAW DEGENERATION, FEMUR DEGENERATION? THESE DRUGS ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP OSTEOPOROSIS, NOT MAKE IT WORSE.

I Tried the Fosamax, could not take the bone pain beyond 5 days. I have FMS to top that off that causes muscle and joint pain. Chief complaint on Patient board is drug side effects especially these 2 drug classes. Can’t take the FMS drugs either.

And DOD is MANDATING which to me is loss of FREEDOM I purchase my meds from Express Scripts. I have had the same low cost Pharmacy for 30 yrs, I am family to them, they know my name, I’m not a number either, and when there is a shortage in my meds I get a note telling me to come back in a week when new supply is in. This artificial drug shortage is creating havoc with the pharmacies.

The only place that has had high results with treating childhood cancer is St Judes in Memphis. And it is FREE.

We do the ham radio operations during the Marathon every December. This frees up PD/EMT lines, when it is only a pooped out runner, we all in for a non ER pick up. Keep hydration, bathrooms, etc stocked for the route. This year’s was cancelled due to winter storms, that are not natural to the region. Colder than usual.

Well, I suppose you could just die faster of one of the old ones. I want more research. Do you realize how many diseases would have killed you off in the past? Try having lived in the year 1860. No morphine or anesthetics then, just a bottle of booze to drink from while they were chopping your leg off. No 2 inch incisions for operations, they would slice you open from stem to stern, and that was only 15 or so years ago. No stents for heart disease, no penicillin. You can’t mean what you say. Give me the wonders of modern day medicine and procedures, thank you.

They prevented it. “

…point taken. My point is a cure or preventative for cancer isn’t a money maker. It won’t happen anytime soon.

I couldn’t take the drugs such as Fosamax. Tried them all. They caused what the doctor called gastrointestinal distress. I started getting Reclast infusions once a year instead. No problems from them.

You are lucky. I can’t take any of them. And with the FDA warnings on them I WON’T take them. I am going the Vit/min route.

They don’t kill, drugs do. OP drugs of this class has 1100 Kidney failure deaths from Reclast, 2400 JAW degeneration lawsuits. This holds about right for the other OP drugs.

FDA’s latest warning is for no more than 3 yr use!

Reclast 1 yr IV GERD/A Fib/ Kidney Failure death, Jaw Degeneration, which stops all dental work and does not repair. Cancer causer too. SO TAKE at your own risk!

Since I am on a OP patient board. I can tell you most of the side effects last YEARS! Not 3 days.

I have had absolutely no side effects from it. I read up on it before I started the injections.
