...

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man’s dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen

And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go, as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered

...

-Gordon Lightfoot

I’ve never seen them. Hope to someday. Sure made an impression on Gordon Lightfoot. Bet the fishing is good.

I spent much of my childhood in one of the Great Lakes states. They’re wonderful; more like fresh water seas than lakes. The fishing is good; I’ve caught my share of walleyes in Lake Erie. I like them pan-fried with butter, minced onion, and lime.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitchigumi
The lady, it’s said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.
Great song.

It always amazes me how the atmosphere is such a thin layer between us and space.

Cool pic with great detail, thanks ...

The Niagara River, Grand Island & NY Power Reservoir are quite apparent, as are the Welland Canal and Toronto metro in Ontario.

Yup, to me it always seemed like the almost perfect vacuum of space would Hoover away any atmospheric gases on the Earth’s surface in the blink of an eye.

The earth’s gravity holds the atmosphere in place, but my little Hoover vacuum cleaner vacuums up all manner of things the earth is trying to hold onto, no problem. And space is the mega vacuum of all vacuums, a mega-vacuum, a giga-vacuum! I guess it’s in the math.

Fishing is great, in Lake Erie especially. It is the shallowest of the Lakes and has a huge population of perch, walleyes, steelhead, and bass just waiting to be eaten.

That recipe sounds wonderful. Just the way I like a recipe to be: good simple ingredients, simply cooked.
