A North Carolina diner that offered a 15 percent for those who prayed before their meal has stopped issuing the price cut due to a lawsuit threat.
Marys Gourmet Diner has been quietly offering the 15 percent praying in public discount for four years and said that it was given to people from all religions.

What I’d be curious about, is how did they know for sure that somebody was NOT returning thanks to the Lord, but silently? Not all graces are said out loud.
I’d tell the local heathenry that to go f**k themselves. In the words of their Secular Savior, “So sue me.”
This is a disastrous precedence that the 1964 Civil Rights Act has set for our nation. Business owners are no longer allowed to deny or provide service to whomever they wish without appealing to anti-conservative bureaucrats.
Atheist customers are typically rude, demand specialized items on the menu, don’t tip whatsoever, often destroy property (sometimes deliberately), and often smell like a combination of dreadlock hair gel and feces. Any sane restaurant would gladly deny service to such Bolshevists and proto-Islamists, but the federal government doesn’t allow business owners to act in their own best interest.
Former Pentecostal ‘Pastor’ Dan Barker at it again! What a stupid Count! Since he is now an atheist, the snarly American version of ‘Dick’ Dawkins has REALLY ‘forked up’ the praying at a diner issue! Now, instead of atheists saving 15% by praying to their ‘Flying Spaghetti Monster’ (FSM), they are now SOL for saving any money. If I were an atheist, I’d prefer to save 15% by praying to the ‘FSM’ as a joke, rather than not saving a penny. I hope this turns around and bites Dan on the butt!
There are a lot of fundamentalist atheist apologists, like ‘Pastor’ Dan, who need to get a sense of humour. They’ll especially need it when they meet their maker and for eternity thereafter!
This is not going to stop until our side goes toe to toe in court; vigorously defending religous freedom every time. It is expensive but they only get empowered by threatening suit and seeing our side back down.
Maybe the churches can set aside money for this or retain the likes of Jay Sekulow of the ACLJ.
Anybody still think America is the “land of the free”? We’ve got feral commie pigs and Nazis running around all over the place.
Illinois Nazis, no less.
There was recently a similar incident in Pennsylvania IIRC. A restaurant offered a 10% discount on Sundays to anyone bringing in a church program. An atheist had a cow claiming discrimination.
I feel its not because he would be given the discount regardless of his belief had he presented one. If the discount was only offered to Christians he would have a case but the discount was based on an action.
It’s kind of like me crying if someone offered a discount from a coupon available in the New York Times because I think the paper isn’t fit to line a bird cage and it offends me.
Pro-Atheist=Pro-Liberal. Liberals want to “liberate us” from free thinking and free living and be put into a box that they can control
I wish Mary would reconsider by doing it this way; All you have to do, to avoid the busybody facists of intolerance is show a little flexibility. Offer a discount to anyone who prays over their food OR RECITES A POEM OR A WORD OF GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION for the food or for the ambiance of this restaurant. Many agnostics, even some atheists are capable of telling you something they do like about their meal or the surroundings. Try it again Miss Mary! This is just another way for you to say ‘Thy Will Be Done”.
Yeah, why fear a lawsuit? What would be the grounds of said suit? The suit would be dismissed out of hand. It is any businesses right to offer any type of discount or none at all. To whomever they wish.
Pity the poor atheist. Too stupid to figure out that if they don’t like the restaurant’s policies, they can simply dine elsewhere.
I cared until li saw the gun free zone sign in the window of the cafe.
I’d be amused to see a “Manager’s Discretion” discount. They could simply give some people the same 15% discount and not say it’s for prayer. The thugs who make bullying Christians a hobby would be unable to prove anything.
