Its less than a week until The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies hits the theaters, putting an end to the six-part Middle Earth saga that began with The Lord Of The Rings trilogy in 2001, and continued with The Hobbit trilogy in 2012. So does the series do a good job of tying up all the loose ends in the franchise? Early reviews seem to indicate the third Hobbit film to be not only the best in the trilogy, but on par with that of the original trilogy.

There are valid critiques, of course, but if you consider The Hobbit and The LOTR films as a whole, he's directed what is beyond question-in my opinion, at least-the best film franchise to date.
And certainly the best adaptation of a fantasy novel I've ever seen.
Martin Freeman is such an excellent actor.
I even thought he did a decent job portraying Arthur Dent in the reboot of The Hitchhiker's Guide.
I can’t wait for this movie to come out.
Benedict Cumberbatch too.
He is extremely flexible.
there are some versions out there already.
I thought his performance in the series Fargo was amazing.
To some extent, the criticism is justified when Jackson is adding new characters that didn’t exist in Tolkien’s world, like the elf-dwarf love interest.
It is also not warranted when Jackson is adding to the story from the background established by Tolkien. An example of this is the Arwen-Aragorn love story. They were lovers and they did marry and they both died. It was a valid addition, imo.
Yes, Freeman also wore a bathrobe similar to the one in “Hitchhikers” when the Dwarves arrived, but I wonder how many geeks noticed.
Well, at least he wasn’t wearing the “costume” he wore in LoveActually
He also did a great underplayed comic acting job in Sherlock.
Hobbit arrived here in the Philippines Friday, but we are too busy with Christmas stuff to go out and see it yet. My granddaughter promised to accompany me: I will probably be the only grandmother in the theatre.
He was is an excellent balance to cumberbatch in sherlock.
The show is a tad PC but it is well done.
Jackson has made some truly great and epic fantasy films. I just don’t know why they’re called The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
The book The Lord of the Rings is made up of three books, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. It followed the book, The Hobbit.
They named the movies after the books.
What’s not to understand?
Oh yeah, why did it three long movies to cover one thin book?
I think both series are great.
Do not laugh! But once upon a time (my crest has long since fallen) I had a mind to make a body of more or less connected legend, ranging from the large and cosmogonic, to the level of romantic fairy-story the larger founded on the lesser in contact with the earth, the lesser drawing splendour from the vast backcloths which I could dedicate simply to: to England; to my country. It should possess the tone and quality that I desired, somewhat cool and clear, be redolent of our air (the clime and soil of the North West, meaning Britain and the hither parts of Europe: not Italy or the Aegean, still less the East), and, while possessing (if I could achieve it) the fair elusive beauty that some call Celtic (though it is rarely found in genuine ancient Celtic things), it should be high, purged of the gross, and fit for the more adult mind of a land long now steeped in poetry.
I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama.<\b>
The professor would have loved these movies!
these movies are fun to watch.
However, I will always return to Middle-Earth by reading the books to be truly entertained.
