Many of us are suffering today from last nights overindulgence. In 2011, Gastro Lab offered its best take on a storied hangover food: the egg-and-cheese sandwich. The video is republished below.
Slate V contributors Dan Pashman and Mark Garrison cook up some elaborate breakfast creations in this episode of Gastro Lab. (video at link)
And me away from my Red Dwarf ping list.
What does that sci-fi show have to do with this thread?
Rimmer: I want a triple fried egg sandwich...
Lister: With chili sauce and chutney!
Holly: You what?
Lister: It’s a state-of-the-art sarnie!
Holly: It’s the state of the floor I’m worried about.
(Rimmer takes a bite, gets a horified look on his face that changes to a look of wonder)
Rimmer: It’s like a cross between food and bowel surgery.
Lister: It’s well naughty. The trick is to eat it before the bread dissolves.
Rimmer: It’s amazing Where did you get the recipe?
Lister: I’m not sure.... I think it was a book on bacteriological warfare.
If it exists, there is a Red Dwarf of it.
Compare to Rule 34.
Needs scrapple, instead of pork roll.
A couple of years ago, a British paper said the bacon buttie was the best hangover cure. I’ll stick with that, hangover or no.
Sausage egg and cheese sandwich.
Must be an English muffin with no dust.
Egg should be cooked over-light with a broken yolk.
Sausage should be patty style, juicy/greasy, but not dripping.
Cheese should be thin and used to glue the other ingredients together so they don’t fall on the car seat.
Anything else is dangerous.
Too much bread, and the cheese is an artificial colour.
It could be worse... it could have 1 piece of porkroll, scrambled egg, and have ketchup on it. Actually, ketchup contamination or any sort will ruin the best Porkroll, egg & cheese.
I asked my Ukrainian friend what the traditional cure for hangover is. “Cold Beer”
That looks like a Taylor ham/egg/cheese on a hard roll.
I have to agree with you there. :)
Anyways... mark your calendars...
I know people who would call it Taylor ham no matter the brand, like the folks who call all soda ‘coke.’
I am in favour of all pork roll and pork roll related festivities. Let the pork roll flow.
It’s also presumably American cheese.
From the looks, egg, cheese 2 slices and 3 slices of bologna on a sesame seed bun.
Not my idea of a great sandwich. Switch to double BACON and you’d have a winner.
One I wish I could eat. Since developing Gastroparesis, a slow motility digestive disease, lots of good foods are things of the past.
