Many JCPenney stores closing
1/7/2015

Posted on 01/07/2015 7:19:32 PM PST by iowamark

There are widespread reports today of JCPenney stores to be closing. There has been no announcement of the exact list. There is one report of 40 stores closing soon after 30 some closed in 2014.

Oddly, the company just reported sales growth in the holiday period vs. the previous year, generating a number of positive news stories.

Running ads with homo couples. Glad they are going bankrupt. They deserve it.

I stopped shopping there after their HOMO Mother’s Day and Father’s Day ads a few years ago.

“At that time in Florida a 14 yo could drive a bike of 5 bhp, usually 60cc or less.”

Around ‘73 or ‘74 my Jr. High class visited another Jr. High out in the sticks of rural S. central FL (Belle Glade?) for a drama play.

The bike rack at the school had more minibikes in it than bicycles.

Your friend needs a better location. The dollar store I visit does that much in 15 minutes. I buy paint rollers & brushes so cheap there I never clean them, just use & toss.

At one time every department had a checkout station. Now there are maybe 2 on a whole floor. And the lines for each back up out the door. Sears did the same thing. You spend hours wandering around a store looking for someone to ring up your purchase.

Our small town had a new dollar store open a couple years ago. They closed up before they even had a chance to take down the Grand Opening sign.

Sign still there.

"Oddly, the company just reported sales growth in the holiday period vs. the previous year,..."

That's how companies get revenues during this recovery--from investors! It's been an increasingly magic economy for nearly 40 years. It's how the "makers" work!

[Stack of stinking irony there.]

At the time we had a Family Dollar and a Dollar General.

FD closed shortly after the new guy.

Dollar General has become the new mini Walmart around here. Some even carrying alcohol.

I hate their remade stores. Don’t even go in the door any more.

“I told her to enjoy restocking my items and to enjoy the fact that I would never buy from Penney’s again.”

And, you know, the only mention the clerk ever made of that was in the employee break room while eating dinner with other employees. Management never found out there was a dissatisfied customer or an issue with the scanner. Unfortunately, your experience was a minor blip in the clerk’s evening...not a telltale sign of impending doom.

Yes, absolutely correct. Why they changed is a matter of management. They have not focused on service, have not focused on anything except profit at the expense of service, and it has never worked. People appreciate the human dimension; we are not robots and don’t deserve to be treated as such. Thank you for your thoughts.

Oh, sure, there are a few extra bucks not going into gas tanks, but folks are struggling.

the bucks I save on gas are going toward making up for the $52 monthly increase in my "health care" premium.

There’s a Dollar something-or-other close to us. What do they sell? If it’s not a lumberyard, hardware store, or a tool store, I don’t go in.

Check for the Target gift card deals for when you buy stuff there. They give you Target gift cards when you buy a number of certain items. For example, they recently gave you a $5 Target gift card when you bought 2 Alka Seltzer Plus cold medicines. They were on sale for $4.39 each PLUS there was a coupon for $5 off 2 Alka Seltzer Plus products so that by rolling those gift cards you got the products for FREE plus you got over $2 back whenever you bought 4 Alka products. Do the math but I did the deal and now have TONS of that stuff plus ended up with lots of extra Target gift cards.
