Many JCPenney stores closing
1/7/2015

Posted on 01/07/2015 7:19:32 PM PST by iowamark

There are widespread reports today of JCPenney stores to be closing. There has been no announcement of the exact list. There is one report of 40 stores closing soon after 30 some closed in 2014.

Oddly, the company just reported sales growth in the holiday period vs. the previous year, generating a number of positive news stories.

I can remember when I could buy surplus FN model 1949 semi auto rifles at JCPenney. Also their Penncraft tools had the same warranty as Craftsman and were of similar quality.

The last time I was in one, I would say 80% of the store was devoted to ladies clothes.

Wasn’t JC Penney the one that really tried to cater to the homosexual crowd?

When you factor in gas, time, the availability of low-cost online options, and the benefits of avoiding random food-court violence and the generally rude atmosphere of a mall... I’m not surprised.

I have gone in, can’t find a register and it takes 15 minutes waiting in line to make a single purchase, and that is before you get to the register which takes another few minutes to pay. The item is scanned, the security tag is removed, the cashier asks if you want a J.C. Penny credit card, then you pay. Something went wrong somewhere down the line. It was a lot easier and faster long ago. I will not miss them. Sorry, J. C. and company, you screwed up good thing you once did so well.

“Like I’ve been saying, a lot of retailers are not going to survive this non-disposable cash economy. Oh, sure, there are a few extra bucks not going into gas tanks, but folks are struggling.”

As a Retailer, I agree. Luckily, my business is helping people grow their own food...which has (big surprise!) become more and MORE critical these past six years.

I see a pattern here...

JC Penney. Isn’t that where I used to get auto parts via catalog?

I guess you mean JC Whitney but I think that at one time JC Penney also sold auto parts.
