Research from China and the US suggests that the innermost core of our planet has another, distinct region at its centre. Yeah, that would be Pellucidar

Wonder where the vast underground oceans are that I’ve been reading about? Most interesting rock we inhabit - will mankind find another or perish as a species?...Oops slightly off topic.

Without being able to drill into the heart of the Earth, its make-up is something of a mystery.Ninety-nine percent of American "journalists" would have written "...somewhat of a mystery."
To: moose07
Huh? Isn’t that the “equator”?
To: Arthur McGowan
The inertial axis, apparently.
I can only guess that it is misaligned because the earth isn`t a sphere.

Prof Song and his colleagues in China say this data suggests that the Earth’s inner core - a solid region that is about the size of the Moon - is made up of ... green cheese.
(sorry)
To: samtheman
Well the Moon is made of cheese. So if it is moon size, it too could be made of cheese.
Humour makes the world go round....not this scientific stuff. :)

On an even sillier note, let’s talk about Professor Xiaodong Song.
Xiao in Chinese means “little”.
So is this the real Professor Little Penis Music?

What is an equatorial axis?
...
I think it’s an arbitrarily chosen line that passes through the center of the Earth and the equator at two points.

Little pillar , treasured tree. Or something like that.
Sounds similar. :)

Anyway, I for one am glad the core is molten iron, so that the rotation of the earth creates a magnetic field, so that the solar wind doesn’t blow all our atmosphere away.

Must be caused by global warming. Or capitalism.

“The Equatorial Axis is the intersection of a spheres surface with the plane perpendicular to the spheres axis of rotation and midway between the poles.”
What you are describing is the Equator.
My question was rhetorical.

Makes about as much sense. :)
