A mother dog saved her nine puppies from burning alive in a forest fire in Chile by digging a deep hole and placing her babies inside where they were later found untouched by the flames, according to rescuers.

We often don’t give animals enough credit with reasoning skills. This is most evident when the event is attached to something the animal naturally want to have done, even without human intervention. That would make a nice short story with lots of illustrations.

My dog knows that I set the live trap tonight and he knows that means we're going to go for a ride with a coon or possum tomorrow. He waited at the gate for me till dark and has been watching it from the window since I made him come in.

I have also met very smart chocolate labs.
And Okay yellow labs.
And all the black labs I met were extremely high strung - but they also were not family dogs but dogs for duck hunting.
