DEVELOPING: Jordan Spieth set a 36-hole scoring record at the Masters on Friday.
The 21-year-old Texan turned in another dazzling round, going to the weekend with a 14-under 130 total. That broke the record of 131, set by Raymond Floyd in 1976.
Spieth shot a 6-under 66 in the second round, essentially blowing away everyone in the field except Charley Hoffman. He was four strokes behind and still on the course, turning in the sort of performance that would normally be good enough for the lead.
Not the way Spieth was playing. He had 15 birdies and only one bogey through the first two days.
"It's special to be in the tournament," he said, "let alone out front."
Spieth said his biggest obstacle the next two days will be scoreboard watching.
He said he just needs "to keep my head down, just need to set a goal for myself. Obviously Charley's playing great, and we may be pretty close up there, and who knows what can happen on the weekend here.

It’s fun to see an emerging star like this. I am around Tiger’s age so it’s a whole different perspective this time. We haven’t seen anyone arrive at this level since Tiger. There have been “next big things” but nothing close to Tiger’s dominance. Rory may be the closest but he’s only had success in small spurts and is no where near dominance the way Tiger was for over a decade. Tiger may still hit those highs again if we’re lucky as fans to see him win a couple more majors. Seeing a young kid just conquer the Masters like this is a rare treat.

The amazing thing about this kid is his lack of nerves. A lot of players have great talent, but Spieth has talent and poise.
So Nice to see Professional Golf have a budding new, respectful, and socially correct image... in Spieth and the fading out of the Arrogant, Self Serving, Bill Clinton Clone ....
Yep, he always keeps a calm head and I’ve enjoyed watching him this year and last.
Needless to say, Spieth does get some coverage in Dallas.
My man McIlroy is all over the place today. Perhaps he’ll pick it up over the weekend and give us the first of many McIlroy/Spieth shootouts.
Good observation, Rory has great game but other things seem to effect his ability to win. He looked nervous in his interview last night and is barely hanging in today.
But good grief, Jordan is the man to beat today and perhaps for a long time to come.
