Not sure why he should be an honorary Texan except for his portrayal of Davy Crockett (a Tennessean) in the Alamo movie.

Winterset, Iowa, just opened a large John Wayne Museum next to his birthplace.

His family moved to Southern California when he was four. He was a surfer and athlete.
