SANTA CRUZ, Bolivia (AP) — Pope Francis denounced the "throwaway" culture of today's society that discards anyone who is unproductive as he celebrated his first public Mass in Bolivia on Thursday, one of the key days of his South American pilgrimage.

It was to culminate with a summit of farmers, fishermen and indigenous whose causes have long been championed by history's first Latin American pope.

Mr. Francis. Shouldn't be focusing on bringing more people to Christ than worrying about whether people are recycling cell phones and other electronics????

He’s such a fool. He said that all Catholics should be living like the indigenous - by which I assume he meant in wretched poverty and reliant on government benefits and government management of their lives. He’s a condescending, hypocritical statist. Maybe he should reduce his carbon footprint and stay home in the Vatican and reduce the planet’s hot air emissions by keeping his mouth shut.

He was talking about people not consumer electronics.

If he does successfully bring people to Christ those people will also care for the poor, the sick and the elderly, as Jesus commanded us to do.

Don’t let Francis’ other, wrongheaded statements on economics and global warming turn you against his exhortations to follow Christ’s teachings.

Here’s the whole homily here:

He's quite right. I throw away all my "GOOD" old stuff to the drop box at my local Catholic church.

Then I work some more and throw away more "good stuff".

Our town, like most towns, has regular disposal dates for electronics.

You’re kidding right?

It’s called an ObamaPhone™. No poor person in this country is without one. Do you know what happens to the phones and electronics you drop in that box? They wind up at the recycling service. Dismantled, melted, and ground down to make more ObamaPhones™.

What Big Daddy should be doing is saying materialism is wrong and we should be reverting back to a simpler time of necessity and unity with God’s will. Less is more.

There’s never been a “simpler time.” If people didn’t have consumer goods in the good old days, it was simply because they didn’t exist, not that they didn’t want things.

The problem now is not what we have, but the fact that we need a spiritual framework for our lives, an answer to the question “why am I here and where am I going?” Whenever there existed a spiritual framework in the past, it was because of the preaching of Christianity, and not that of a bizarre, Marxist-Romantic vision of happily impoverished peasants bouncing around in a collective farm on Mother Earth.

He forgets that “the indigenous” are human beings like the rest of us and need the message of Christ.

In this country, most of the unproductive choose to be so.

Francis is certainly speaking to the South Americans. There, the story is much the same. Many of the unproductive choose to be so also.

God and Jesus are quite clear: Christians should be productive. They need to be working His lands and be productive at bring people to Christ.

Anything about the devil's soldiers on the loose, slaughtering Christians and other minorities in so many parts of the planet?

I know nothing about organized religion. But to an outsider looking in, this guy doesn't seem to be about Christian doctrine.

Is anyone keeping track of the carbon cost of his trip?

Obviously, he’s not...

Heck, speaking of cost of any kind, who does he think pays for his gallivanting? Hint: it’s not the “indigenous.”

Looks like a deliberately misleading headline.

Big Media are leftists.

Leftists lie.

All the time.

About everything.

So nobody should be shocked by a dishonest headline in Big Media. Such things should be expected, in fact.

IMO, we should be most suspicious of Big Media when they say things that pander to our prejudices.

Those of us who think Francis isn't very bright must remind ourselves to view Big Media's coverage of him as suspect and probably false until proven otherwise ...
