Japan's role in World War II gets a whole new perspective in this consisting entirely of full color footage, including color films from Japan that were recently discovered. As the visuals of the world war take on a new vivid immediateness, the story of the rise of the militarists in Japan is told through the personal writings of the Japanese themselves. From the first overconfident tastes of victory, to the devastating losses that led to an unthinkable defeat amidst the ruins, the Pacific Theater of World War II is told through the Japanese's eyes.

It was assumed no color films existed in Japan until the victorious U.S. forces arrived in 1945. Now you can discover the story of a nation at war from its rare color films, plus letters and diaries from those who lived through it. Almost all the material in this color documentary has been recently discovered and allows the viewer to expereince Japanese culture and events from an entirely new perspective. Subject matter includes Imperial Japanese troops in 1931 Manchuria, remarkable domestic scenes of 1930s Japan, preparation for war in 1939, and images of occupation in 1940s Shanghai.

The Japs were pretty infamous for fighting to the last man in many battles.

I doubt ISIS is anywhere near that tough.

Frightening comparison .... I have to leave now, but the resemblances to the US and other forces have me intrigued

I'll not comment until I've seen the entire documentary but YOUR comment is no less valid.

Yeah, the ISIS creeps couldn’t hold a candle to the ferocity of Imperial Japanese troops.

I doubt ISIS is anywhere near that tough.

Those ISIS pigs appear to be about as tough as a mashed potato sandwich.

After all, how tough do you have to be to rape young girls and kill unarmed Christians?

Don’t think ISIS has yet fought a real army with the exception of the Kurds, and the Kurds have kicked their butts each time they’ve engaged. The Japanese on the other hand defeated, sometimes easily, some of the strongest, most modern armies and navies of the time.

” remarkable domestic scenes of 1930s Japan “

This is very fascinating considering that no more than 70 years before that they were living in the “Japanese Feudal Era” that pretty much remained the same from 1200 - 1860.

They went from bronze age to industrial age in about 30-50 years....

I think in some ways all that accelerated growth went to their heads collectively.

You gotta give them credit for embracing technological advancement so quickly, they are a clever people.

Sadly their cultural advancement couldn’t keep up and it lead to them deciding that they could conquer the entire pacific ocean area, only to get a good old fashioned atomic wedgie humbling by us Yanks.

ONE thing you can say about the Japanese, while they were a bunch of dirt-bags when it came to raping and pillaging in foreign lands, they did treat their own women at home a million times better than the scumbag ISIS jihadis do.

I scanned the video and didn’t see any DOMESTIC japanese women in burquas or being mistreated.
