The Quiet Revolution: How the New Left Took Over the Democratic Party
American Thinker ^ | August 23, 2015 | Scott S. Powell

...Upon assuming office, President Obama had no problem bypassing the Constitutional advise-and-consent role of Congress in his appointment of a record number of czars, many of whom were so radical they would have failed to pass Senate confirmation. One of the offshoots of former IPS director Robert Borosage was the Apollo Alliance, an organization that he co-founded in 2001. Apollo saw its political clout increase dramatically with the election of Barack Obama. Van Jones, a self-described communist and an Apollo Alliance activist, was appointed Green Jobs czar by President Obama. A month after inauguration, a centerpiece of Apollo’s policy agenda was packaged right into the $787 billion stimulus bill, which directed $110 billion to green jobs programs. At the time of the passage of that bill -- what came to be known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, “The Apollo Alliance has been an important factor in helping us develop and execute the strategy…”

Both Alinsky and Cloward/Piven thought that the free enterprise system had to be destroyed from within.

Camouflage and deception are key to Alinsky-style organizing.

The posted extract made me think that the author might believe that the Democrats went hard left starting in 2008. "Oh no!" I thought. "It happened long before that!"

I actually clicked on the article and I see that the author fully understands the situation. The article seems like a good summary of "the long march through the institutions". It's been going on for a long, long time.

The New Left did not simply fade away when the troops came home from Southeast Asia. It went mainstream, with many of the 60s radicals deciding to follow Alinsky’s counsel to clean up their image, put on suits and infiltrate the system.

They would become professional revolutionaries who landed jobs in the knowledge industry: the universities, foundations, and the media and special interest activist groups.

It has been going on since at least Woodrow Wilson. The progressives here are copying the British Fabian Socialists. They believed in Evolution not Revolution because it ends in the same place.

Edward Gibbon, the renowned historian who wrote The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, described six attributes that Rome embodied at its end:

first, an overwhelming love of show and luxury;

second, a widening gap between the rich and the poor;

third, an obsession with sports and a freakishness in the arts, masquerading as creativity and originality;

fourth, a decline in morals, increase in divorce and decline in the institution of the family;

fifth, economic deterioration resulting from debasement of the currency, inflation, excessive taxation, and overregulation;

and sixth, an increased desire by the citizenry to live off the state.

Are there any institutions or agencies left for them to conquer?

Sports, the armed forces and churches were the last ones still standing, but they’ve managed to get them too.

The Long March is not murky when it comes to political parties. The New Left of McCarthy and McGovern captured the Democratic Party from the traditional trade union bosses, best represented by Hubert Humphrey.

Could you rephrase your comment? I can’t figure out what you mean. Is it describing a threat from the left or is it an observation?

The Liberal conquest of American institutions has been going on since about 1900. It was organized and carried out like a choreographed ballet. Academia, Churches, Media with its vast ability to form and maintain attitudes and lately business has become far left.

The Quiet Revolution: How the New Left Took Over the Democratic Party

After Boehner, McConnell and Roberts, shouldn't the title be " How the New Left Took Over the Republican Party"?

Now if only the right would take over the Republican party.

Not very likely, 'cuz the RNCe is where the money is and we all know that money is power.

Option 'A' In order to trump the RNCe we would need $9thand that would be a big problem to overcome...

Option 'B' Would be to try and breath life into a third party with Constitutional views. Can you say Tea Party? I thought so, and we all know how that turned out...

Option 'C' Armed revolution is off the table for reasons to obvious to mention...

Option 'D' Open for suggestions???

Regards,
GtG
