Milwaukee Cops Take 75-Year-Old Woman's Day from Bad to Worse
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^

Starting her day with a serious traffic accident was bad enough.

But Joy McFarlin's run-in with two Milwaukee police officers was worse.

Before it was over, this 75-year-old grandmother had been threatened repeatedly with jail, arrested, put in handcuffs, placed in a squad car and taken to a police station.

The two cops had the notion based on witness statements that McFarlin was lying by insisting she, and not some mystery man, was driving her car at the time of the crash. They thought she was covering up for a guy who fled the accident scene. There was no such guy, she said, but she could not convince the police of that.

And the accident wasn't even her fault.

"This was not about my driving. They didn't think I was driving," she told me. "I always believed you had to do something wrong to be arrested. I'm too old to be naive, but I really did."

No mention about the driver who caused the accident; perhaps an off duty officer?

Wouldn't surprise me. The Thin Blue Line has gotten awfully dirty and greasy these days.

The illegal alien in these parts is absolutely priveleged to the point of adored his status is way above antone else. Now on the military base at mass the priest has the congregation praying for the alien/ refugee. I stopped giving cash. Stopped going to the civilian mass now the military chaplain is exalting the illegal alien

Well this is likely a case of an off duty cop

She’d better get a good lawyer and get a false arrest thing going

Since there were no charges why was the matter of a ghost driver of any interest to the police?

Hopefully, no cop’s ego was bruised during this incident. The destruction of innocent lives is nothing when a police officer’s fragile ego is at risk.

Because drunk drivers or those holding drugs often try to switch seats with a passenger after something like this or even after they get flashed down to be pulled over. Cops see it all the time. I don't see anything to suggest that happened here.

Yes indeed a 75 year old woman can be a major threat especially if she is experiencing a degree of shock after an auto accident, the important thing in this situation is the officers got home safely.

She will probably be harassed by police when she goes driving because she didn’t tell the officers what they wanted to hear. I see some tickets in her future and maybe enough to cost her her license. The woman cop sounds like standard issue female cop just about everywhere. When alone which is rare, they tend to be polite. When in the company of a male cop they are surly and trying to prove they are the tougher ones.

My response:

“If you don’t like the truth, then make up your own, I’m sure it wouldn’t be the first time.”

“I was 17 the first time somebody played the “we know what really happened” gimmick on me, and it didn’t work then either.”

She was lucky they did not shoot her. Or at least, beat the hell out of her for “resisting”.

There is a small part of this story that should raise a question about her actions after the accident. She was E/B when a car going N/B struck her truck. That means that the passenger side of the truck was damaged. She ended up in the median, with her drivers side door facing the E/B traffic, yet she decided to try to get out on the damaged side of the vehicle. Why? If she was in the median then she was out of the active lanes, and getting out by the drivers side door wouldn't have put her in any more danger.

To her credit, she was the one who contacted the press. If she had something to hide, she would be attracting attention to herself.

Unfortunately, there isn't any indication that the reporter bothered to dig up the accident report to read statements by the other driver or the witnesses.

So we don't know what the other driver said. We really don't know what the witnesses said. The basics are that she was in an accident that was caused by someone else, and the police think there is basically an unreported victim - that being the phantom driver of her pickup.

To me, this does not rise to the level of a detention. The police should have simply taken all the statements and submitted the case to the District Attorney for a judgement on whether she may have broken any laws.

Agreed. If the DA thinks there is probable cause for a charge of interfering with an investigation against her he could send her a summons. I don't there much risk of a 75 year old woman fleeing in the meantime.

I have an honest question... what is it with catholics that compels them to whole heartedly support illegals and think that the US must unequivocally and unilaterally accept EVERY self-declared refugee or illegal into our borders and take care of them? I nearly got into a row with my otherwise usually level headed catholic DIL about this.

Catholics have become the replacement for liberal jews.

Sorry, that is what I see. Let the games begin.

Typical of the female cop, trying bluster and intimidation to get what she wants when in fact she looks foolish. Notice on cop videos and elsewhere that when its time to fight or subdue a criminal, the female cops stand back fluttering around the edges and basically doing nothing while the males jump on the pile. Political correctness at its best.

I am catholic..
I do not support illegals..
nor do ANY of the catholics I know...
now the priests and the hierarchy of the church do..

that does not mean we have to follow or buy into it..
it is not a matter of doctrine, therefore it can be disregarded....

a lib is a lib, catholic, protestant, jew or otherwise...

do not lump us all into one category...

Here’s what I have to say about your good question on Catholics

I’ve researched this so it is an informed statement

Catholics vote for democrats 50% in pres elections. If the GOP spent as much time and attention on them they’d (the GOP) would have to stop pretending illegals or Latino voting bloc matters. It really doesn’t But the GOP can’t get the catholic vote. A majority of Catholics do not care that not do they realize that the democrat party is the party of abortion They don’t care about the fact that catholic canon law as well as papal documents and also logic points out that birth control cooperates with evil

The GOP could not get the catholic vote on abortion. Catholics either do not care or other issues take precedence. The fact is that it is absolutely aginst our religion to vote for a pro abortion candidate when there is an alternative in which case the least offensive abortion candidate is the one to vote for.

They don’t think about it and they don’t hear about it and they do not inform themselves by looking it up in the catechism which most Catholics have forgotten exists but is our theologians’ review and canon law experts’ presentation of and reference to the bible. Every statement has at the bottom of the page numbered footnotes to the bible documentation

You can read this yourself with a simple google or just let it go, but, in the catechism the statement regarding illegals is that they are unlawful. That we as Catholics are not to defy lawful proceedings ( there is nothing unlawful about not participating in birth control or abortion But it is unlawful to participate in illegal immigration The first being paso e or non offensive the second being offensive

The catechism states logically that illegal immigration offends the host nation depleting its resources for itself it’s lawful citizens and future legal immigration for them as well as for future legitimate refugees

Illegal immigration and, in this case, invasion are against Church teachings

Beyond uninformed cathilics, Catholics have taken on a thing they call social justice I don’t know why they’ve taken it beyond legality. My most favorite catholic friends some of them and some very informed have taken it on they are blind to the teachings of the catechism separation of church and state

I don’t discuss it with them. They’ll go so far as to pretend that I, a nurse former military nurse, do not care about the individual immigrant legal or illegal, across the board whe I have taken professional care of more criminals and also foreigners and also minorities than any of them have even met in their own lifetimes

I don’t discuss it because they are not convert able on this subject. If it comes to anything I just refer them to the catechism on it.

I’ve written priests asking them to refer to the catechism on this.

I’ve left notes in the collection box on it

This grou a group of practicing Catholics, seems to be a group of people who were raised in families that were democrat going back to the I don’t know when, unions? In my family it is a group who were raised by mothers who went to the universities like Catholic, back in the ‘50s and since, who preached this stuff

They don’t separate church and state or party. And they don’t realize what the catechism says and they do not know that we are in charge of and overseeing this invasion

We the people cannot absolve ourselves of this responsibility

I don’t discuss this with my catholic social justice family and friends. But I have certainly let them know my thinking on it. And I don’t agree with them. They know that. I do not hope to convert them.

I’m going to say something else. The Church is run by humans but it has a teaching that even, as you will see, the pope cannot alter.

When Catholics ignore this they are off

many Catholics are simply wrong on this. But catholic teaching is not wrong on it. These Catholics are ignoring catholic teaching.
