Really? Wow. If a Calif. home worth $700K (probably a three bedroom, two bath) can be purchased for $130K in NC, then I need to move out of Calif.
A two bedroom and one bath near Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley is about $900K.
Something similar happened in my town. On the *other side o the tracks* ...in a development of multi-million dollar mc mansions ... squatters took up residence in an empty house that was up for sale by people who had moved to Florida.
Funny thing was, they set up a MJ growing operation in the vacant place. B/c it was down a long drive, not visible from the road, neighbors had no idea what was going on.
The real estate market [especially for pricey homes] has been in the terlit. Funny that no neighbor suspected the comings and goings ...and the real estate agent never went by, or had to show the house.
Needless to say, the place was trashed. I believe the local undercover cops caught wind of the address as a place to buy good weed.
TA-DA!
I think the art may have been left *up* as part of the *staging* for the house to show its best foot forward.
If the owner had *fine-arts-insurance* as a rider....the art would have been paid off 100% of appraised value.
S.F., sanctuary city, leave this poor undocumented art dealer alone.
Yeah, that’s going to be prison.
From Dragoon, AZ? Last time I was in Dragoon it was a bar surrounded by ranches...
I will never never never never understand how a squatter has any legal rights or standing at all. Never. The owner is the owner, period.
That is no joke. My niece and her husband bought a house there 10 years ago, it was a small fixer upper. It didn’t need major work but needed paint, flooring, repairs. They paid over $700,000.
True story. And in some places in Texas that would get you a nice home with several acres of land.
“The mansion, which spans 21,000 square feet”
A 21,000 square foot house is “large” be it located in San Fran or Kansas City.
My daughter lives by the eBay headquarters, its a 3BR ranch on a slab, its about 1M now. What gets me is people buy them and then tear them down to build a new home. It then becomes 1.5M home.
Thanks, I'm now feeling my age - you young whippersnapper!
It makes no sense to me.
Thank you.
Granite Falls, NC
$139,900; 4 beds 2 baths
Berkeley, CA
$999,000; 4 beds 2 baths
Wow. Amazing difference.
As far as I know, Granite Falls has never held a Gay Pride Parade and the streets are not littered with either the “homeless” or human feces. I’ve never been to Berkeley, but I’ve read reports of problems like that in Berkeley (or perhaps San Francisco?).
My guess is the annual property taxes & Insurance on that home run about $800 total.
Of course, Granite Falls will not have the restaurants, symphony & theaters of Berkeley, but Blowing Rock, Asheville and Charlotte are not that far away. With the money saved on property taxes alone you could afford to fly somewhere exotic every month for “great restaurants, symphonies, etc.”
Thank you. Charlotte sounds great.
My grandmother and father are from Berkeley. Both told me that Berkeley was a classy town with the university and top students. Then the 1960’s rolled in with Wavy Gravy and the LSD inspired Hippie movement. Today there is a mixture of both with the Wavy Gravy crowd in charge of the city council. As a result, bums, grime, robbery and wild dogs repulse the fine parents visiting their brilliant students. Sad.
