Affluent family's purebred shepherd ignored after arrival of new baby
The Examiner ^ | November 16, 2015 | Penny Eims

A seven-year-old German shepherd named "Louie," bears the painful evidence of neglect on his once regal body. Louie used to live in an affluent neighborhood with a family which was described as "well off."

For a time, the purebred shepherd, who had been purchased for thousands of dollars, was a beloved part of his family's life...everything changed when he was banished to live his life outside after the family welcomed a new baby.

Louie's life of being a pampered pet vanished and as he endured life outside, his health began to deteriorate. Of little matter was his fine pedigree or training...he had been tossed aside and forgotten. Thanks to outside intervention, Louie left his neglectful situation and joined the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County.

I feed my Rott very well and we have five human kids but I catch two hints here:

Baby breeders < dog people

Purebreds < rescue dogs

Folks want a mutt fine God love em

I am breed specific and have no shame buying what I want for 45 years now and counting

Alsatians

Dobies

American Bulldogs

Giant schnauzers

Pit bulls

Three Rottweilers

We live in a pagan culture now where we are judged by how we treat animals more than each other

Just despicable. If they wanted to kick the dog to the curb, they should’ve just re-homed him.

Guess I’m the only one not seeing it... this reads like a made up fluff piece to get funding for a shelter.

I call BS on the story.

It does indeed read like a deliberately crafted tale written to make the army of liberal spinsters say “They should have made the baby live outside instead of the dog”.

Nope. True story. I am part of the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, the group that saved Louie.

I saw him yesterday. He is getting better but full recovery is still in doubt. I will be glad to send you photos of him.

A newborn coming into the family is priority, however this animal has been badly mistreated. Was it that hard to try to find a decent home for the dog, or even try to care for it? It’s not as if they didn’t have months to prepare. Plenty of families have enough love and care to go around for both children and pets. It’s really pretty inexcusable.

It’s not either/or, it’s both/and. Treat your kids right and treat your dogs right. It’s part of good stewardship.

They didn’t treat their dog right, and I wouldn’t be surprised that when the novelty of a new baby wears off, they’ll have a nanny hired to raise Junior.

Unbelievable! It just breaks my heart whenever I see an animal suffer and even more so when it’s at the hands of a human...........

HMmm...when the baby grows older...will the parents toss it aside for another “baby?”...How people treat animals says a lot.

Our rescue is volunteer driven and standards are high. Must wear GSROC gear and closed toe shoes at all events. Adopters are carefully vetted.

Adopters are carefully vetted.

Do they ever adopt to out of staters?
