Yup.
In the end, you have to do the right thing.
In my view, you do right by your pet and you hope that you spend a lifetime together.
I’ve been saddened by pets I’ve lost to death and found joy in pets that became part of my family.
That is my logic in refusing to get a dog; money is tight, and once people are attached to a dog they’ll bankrupt themselves paying for medical treatment for it. They are handy for security or emergency rations, but the costs wouldn’t justify keeping one (and we are probably all too lazy to walk it the way we should).
I’ve been through it,and I made the financial sacrifice which was very hard on me at that time.It paled in comparison to still having my best buddy with me for the rest of his life.
They are living creatures,there is always a chance that something out of the ordinary can go wrong.
My original point stands.

The little guy is still the alpha male much to the chagrin of one-eyed Hank, my rescue Border Terrier. Bobbi, my Cairn mix girl defers to both males.
Every day I tell them I couldn't love them more, and then I do.
I’m not wealthy but at the point of life I am, a dog is good for my health too - I need to stay active and exercise every day.
And I always look forward to our daily walks, come sun, rain or snow.

If you are not thinking that something catastrophic “could” happen,then you are not really thinking.
They don't have overnight people there but there is the emergency clinic next door so they transferred her there and put her in their oxygen chamber and started her on Lasix and heart medication,(Pimdoendain) and Viagra (which was first invented for the heart) When I went to see her this morning she is doing so much better and if when they wean her off the oxygen her levels stay up I will get to bring her home.
I can understand in a way why people HAVE to surrender an older dog that is having health problems. So far this has cost me $1300 and that does not include what today will cost. The Viagra was $196 for 10 pills that I had to rush to the pharmacy to get for them, because they don't have it at the clinic. I told her this morning I hope they can find something else to help her because I can't afford that expense to continue. I love my little Misty terribly but there will come a time when we will no longer to be able to keep her going. Today isn't that day though. Thank God.
That’s beyond disgusting and it makes me furious. People like that should stick to throw pillows and leave animals to those who truly want them and care for them.

Can’t say if that story is true but my rescue, German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (CA), saved one dog several years ago because the previous owner bought new furniture and the dog did not match the furniture.
A lot of posters think stories like this are bogus but I can tell you after 6 years of volunteering the large majority are not.

I agree ... I can't even watch the ASPCA advertisements on television which show abandoned pets with the song "In the Arms of an Angel"; I have to switch channels or leave the room...
Viagra for a dog? Female dog? Please explain.
I think Dr. Jeff in Denver commented that many of the rich clients that he saw change pets for the most superficial of reasons.
That’s outright cruelty. Some people should not be allowed to have pets, period.
Same kind of person who can’t wait to put their parents in a home.

People surrender animals all the time. Be happy there are shelters for this sort of thing versus just euthanasia otherwise.
If it wasn’t for valid medical reasons, than its simply an excuse to abandon the poor dog.
Its one thing if you cannot afford expensive medical treatment for your pooch but I don’t tolerate surrendering a pooch out of desire for a lifestyle change.
There is a difference between genuine compassion and human selfishness.
Our dog’s tongue changes color throughout the day. The vet told us her heart is strong and functioning normally but some dog’s tongues just do that.
