A man who lives across the street from a prominent drug treatment program was arrested Tuesday night on charges involving almost 1,900 packets of heroin, according to authorities.

The suspect, 24-year-old Lirse Jones, was wearing an ankle bracelet because he is on probation stemming from a previous drug conviction, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Narcotics detectives spotted Jones pacing back and forth near the corner of Straight Street and 20th Avenue while on his cell phone, the sheriff said. Shortly after that, a man driving a black Range Rover pulled up to the curb and made an exchange with Jones, the sheriff said.

After one group of officers followed the motorist, others detained Jones outside a home on Straight Street, Berdnik said. While searching Jones and his home, the detectives found 1,841 glassines of heroin and $3,407 in cash suspected as drug proceeds, authorities said. The drugs have a street value of about $9,000, the sheriff said.

Jones’ home is across the street from the Straight and Narrow drug rehabilitation program. Jones was charged with several drug crimes, including intent to distribute, the sheriff said. The alleged buyer, a 30-year-old man from Wyckoff, was charged with the lesser crime of possession of 30 heroin packets, authorities said.

“These arrests should once again be a warning to drug dealers and purchasers that if you come into Passaic County for the purpose of illegal activity, you will be arrested,” said Berdnik in a news release.

democrats in action, put the poor soul on probation because drug laws are unfair and racist, well, so much for ankle bracelets and probation keeping the crime and recidivism rates down. And to boot, he was arrested across the street from a Catholic, drug-treatment center, Straight and Narrow.

‘My client merely found these drugs and was going to the police station to turn them in when they raided his room.’

Here in Pennsylvanian he would be called a non-violent offender. PA is allowing the criminal element to run the street. This is why the drug culture is running wild in this country! The Dept. of Corrections is run by an assclown that thinks the crooks are good people!

The racist ankle bracelet much like water boarding needs to be abolished for a kinder gentler punishment
