Were Trump voters in primaries told, "it's only for the first vote" at the convention?

Of course that’s all in theory as the EC has never failed to give a clear win.

That is wrong as well. In the election of 1800, the EC was deadlocked, and Thomas Jefferson was elected president by the House after 35 ballots. That was when the Constitution required that the person getting the majority of votes became president and the person coming in 2nd would be the VP. After that, they amended the Constitution to have the President and VP run as a ticket.

Arglebarglegarbleargleyeaaaaahhhhh!

You can tell a tRumpaloo—you just can’t tell ‘em much.

Politics ain’t beanbag, and candidates who want to win pay attention to the rules and build a solid ground game, as Ted Cruz has done.

Cruz at least reads the rules and uses them to his advantage. Rules he did not make. Should he maybe have some one on one sessions with Don Trump and make him take a quiz so he is sure that he is competing fairly with a man who thought he could win it all with his magnetic personality?

Clearly Trumpsters need to be educated. In most states the voters have a beauty contest. They vote for the candidate, but not for the delegates. Precinct caucuses choose delegates to District Conventions/Caucuses. Districts to State Conventions. Many states have County conventions. States vary on the combination.

Anyone over 18 should know this. Must we return to the Literacy tests of the past?

Slander after Chicago was why I left Cruz.

Cruz and Trump are both imperfect but they agree far more than 80% of the time (see my tagline from Ronald Reagan). They should be friends and allies, and we should treat both of them as such.

You are whistling into the wind my friend. The stupid is strong, and stuck, on FR. Its depressing. I thought we were different, I guess not.....

I will keep trying. If this fails, I have another strategy. In the fall, I will threaten people on the losing side with an imminent "President Hillary". That should scare some more people sober.

Regan and Ford were in a dead heat regarding delegates, that is why neither could get the majority.

So, Reagan was not mathematically eliminated, both men had divided the Party.

As for 1976, Ford lost after the contested convention, which gave us Jimmy Carter!

Candidates[edit]

This was the last time during the 20th century that a primary season had ended without a prohibitive nominee.

So, Reagan didn’t just stay in to stop Ford from getting the nomination, he had a legitimate chance of winning.
