Cats in Space Lightsaber Battle Lights Up San Jose This Weekend

A "Cats in Space" themed LED lightsaber battle is scheduled to take over St. James Park in San Jose on Saturday.

Toronto event producers Newmindspace, who threw a bubble-blowing party in San Francisco's Dolores Park in 2015, have been throwing lightsaber battles internationally for years, including one last December in San Francisco's Justin Herman Plaza.

Newmindspace's battles used to have a Star Wars theme until Lucasfilm came calling; post-settlement with the Bay Area company and they're now called "space battles" and can't technically refer to the fighting weapon as a lightsaber.

For $10 participants will be reserved lighted stick, with a portion of the proceeds donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Delores Park has great memories for me.

When America began the bombing campaign in Afghanistan, I took my girlfriend to a “Support our troops” rally in the median of the street that runs by it.

There were about 8 of us, all FReepers.

We had to take to the median, as the park itself was full of about 4,000 rabid, hateful leftists.

We had police protection in the beginning, but they were pulled back, and 4,000 hateful leftists came at us with much force. I was the youngest, healthiest male of our group and folks looked to me to protect them.

One dope-smoking ghetto dweller told my GF to go back to Europe, even.

I made the command decision to GTFO.

We almost got worked over that day, but we successfully disengaged.

Fun times. I wish I remembered to names of the other FReepers that day.

We are working a project in that area. That part of SJ has the highest human feces per square footage of anyplace in the Bay Area I’ve been, and I’ve been to most populous places around here...
