You absolutely MUST install the Brave browser [from fired firefox exec]

I remember when Mozilla fired Brendan Eich for being a normal human being, I was sort of bummed that I was going to stop browsing with Firefox. I'm not really the organized boycotting type, but I am someone who simply refuses to participate in idiocy. If some anti-American Hollywood liberal wants to fight against a normal civilization, then I just stop watching their movies and buying their music. If a coffee establishment tells their baristas to engage with me about race when I'm trying to get my morning triple venti soy latte, then I go elsewhere. If one of my favorite conservative-leaning talk show hosts starts supporting a liberal for President, then I turn the dial. It's not that I keep a list, but if it's seared into my brain deep enough, then I certainly alter my habits as a consumer of products, services, and content. Conversely, if someone is under attack by Marxists, then I tend to overly support them, like the Chick-Fil-A scenario, where I was stuffing my face with spicy chicken sandwiches several times per week for months. Thank goodness that died down. Anyway, I knew whatever Eich ended up doing, if it was a product or service, I was going to be a customer. I have no idea what Eich's politics are, but I know he is someone worth supporting.

I have the link to it but am still cautious until I hear some reviews from people who’ve tried it. Will it remove my Firefox bookmarks and cookies?

:) don’t know yet. I have Chrome, too. Use chrome for certain things, firefox for others, rarely explorer, and will not upgrade to microsoft 10’s new browser ? until it’s government controlled.

If my son hadn’t used this laptop in Afghanistan i would have gone with Linux on it. Too sentimental.

I don’t see any updated info since April 8th. That’s curious. Where’d they go?

Don’t bother if you are still happy with XP, it’s not supported.

I just downloaded it for my Android phone and gave it a try. Not bad so far.

Thank your son for his service. I don’t use Chrome, took that and Google stuff off. I accidentally loaded W10 on a notebook and it was so overloaded with stuff it would constantly lock up also knocked out my CD player and my WiFi pickup antenna. Went back to Sys7.

Did you loose your bookmarks or cookies? I have some cookies I use for dedicated sites so I don’t have to keep a list of all my passwords.

Brave is open source! ... so everything from our backend to the frontend is open.
What could go wrong?

'BLATANTLY ILLEGAL': 17 newspapers slam ex-Mozilla CEO's new ad-blocking browser

This article says they strip out the ads supplied with websites and substitute their own, which are presumably less dangerous. On the surface, this doesn't sound as good as running Firefox with crap-blocking security add-ons.

But one side effect of running Firefox with crap-blocking security add-ons is that the developers of many legitimate websites are incompetent and use a lot of crap which, if blocked, will cripple the web site. Does Brave solve this problem? I.e., does it manage to block the crap without crippling legitimate but poorly implemented websites?

Found something out about W10 (and 8.1) I don't like. No support for a dvd player, even though it has a dvd drive. Have to download an app for that.

Anyone have any good suggestions (besides Linux, Mac, downgrading)?

I don’t believe you can bookmark anything yet. Plus I use LastPass and it doesn’t support that either. Fast though.

Why doesn’t anyone do single column, text wrapping, variable size font anymore?

I have to use an outdated Russian version of opera just to read FR on my iPhone.

At your recommendation I’ve downloaded both the Windows and iOS versions, and they seem to work pretty well so far.

One thing I love is that you get a “wallet” in which they put ad revenue, which you can use to support your favorite sites, like FreeRepublic.

Go to the site to learn more.

BTW, it really is faster, and really does block ads.

The interface is very well done and attractive.

Beware, though, that this is not yet a full production release, so even they say you may encounter problems. I heartily recommend that FReepers give it a whirl.

They have versions for Mac, too.

The one thing I have noticed is that the JavaScript support seems to mimic Chrome’s. I say this because a web site I have programmed encounters the same errors that Chrome does. I have to fix the bug. It’ll be interesting to see if it fixes it for Brave, too.

10 seems fairly fast, but my beef is it didn’t transfer
all my email addresses to outlook so now I can only
access them on my android.

I really like this browser, but it has a couple things that keep me from using it as my main browser. On FR, for example, every time I read an article and then go back to the list of articles, it refreshes the page and I go to the top instead of to the spot where I was. No way to change that in preferences.

Also, it doesn't integrate the passwords and saved information the way my Safari for Mac does, and so it costs me time if I have to sign in and look up online IDs. I don't think it can import from Safari, maybe Chrome users would not have this issue.

It runs fast and it kicks out all the web nonsense so you just see the page you want to see. That part is very nice.

Install failed on Windows 7.... “...Access to the path ‘resources’ is denied.

Will send their support the log text.

Probably ran afowl security software.
