Every day without it is one day closer.

Not necessarily. There’s no reason those faults HAVE to hit on a big quake.

When I was a boy, I used to think that verse meant the same thing. I vowed to stay away from "diver's places".

9.3 in CA? That will take care of the Aztlan problem... it will be underwater. Edgar Cayce will have been late but right.

I worry more about going to walmart and getting kilt by some uber driving koran reading goat lover

Agree. Statistics are a b*tch, aren't they? Even if a big one hits, a lot of people will survive it just fine. There will be some cleanup and rebuilding to do, but most people will be just fine. In the scheme of things, we have more to fear from ordinary daily happenings like getting hit by a car driver texting someone about the flavorful treat they just ate somewhere. Thousands of people are getting injured and dying every day in accidents or crimes, singly each one is insignificant but taken statistically is far more dangerous a possibility than the "big one".

I wouldn't worry about the "big one". I worry about the idiot liberals who might cross my path and cause me grief.

Exactly. I was born and raised in California and they’ve been saying this since 1972. It’s like predicting the Second Coming: Nobody knows when it will be, but the last person that says it before it happens (in it’s own sweet time) gets to say “I told you so.”

Well that should settle things. Brown may also find a way to tax it.

1972 my a**. I’ve been hearing about since at least 1965, and I’m sure it’s been a topic since at least the mid ‘30s.

The “Big One” has been predicted with some certainty going back to early 1970s, as far as I can remember.

In 1992 the Landers earthquake struck along the San Andreas Fault with a magnitude somewhere around 7.5. If that wasn't "the big one" then what is?

Someday there might be a bigger earthquake but I'm not holding my breath for it to happen. I am though prepared for another Landers type shaker.
