I'm not a Usain Bolt fan
Vanity | 08/19/2016 | McGarrett

I have to admit Usain Bolt is an amazing athlete. He looked like a man running against boys in 200 meter final yesterday. Still, his constant showboating turns me off. His total lack of respect for his competitors and post-race antics make me want to gag. I suppose I could stomach those a bit better if he was an American, but I can't say it would greatly change my opinion either. What really chaps my a** is the way NBC and the commentators fall all over this guy. We get these extended segments on him crammed down our throats instead of seeing other competitors or competitions. Why would your average American be a big fan of this foreign blowhard?

He makes time for anyone who wants to interview him, and stopped an interview the other day while the American National Anthem was playing for a medal ceremony.

I consider Michael Phelps to be a greater athlete than Usain Bolt. Mostly because Phelps has won gold medals in multiple swimming styles at multiple distances in four different Olympics.

“What really chaps my a** is the way NBC and the commentators fall all over this guy.”

Me too. It’s almost as though they are proponents of black supremacy.

Nope. But I didn’t like Phelps with his “give me the applause motion” in the pool after he won either. It’s like Emmitt Smith used to say: “I hand the ball to the referee when I score. Like it’s no big deal because I’ve done it so much. I act like I’ve done it before and like I’m going to do it again.”

That’s how I coach my kids.

It sounds like your issue is more with NBC, not Usain Bolt.

NBC has really done these Games a disservice, IMO. Instead of covering them as sporting events, they have Oprah-fied them.

Olympic sprinters tend to be the most cockiest of athletes. It’s been that way for a long time, well before Bolt.

However, Bolt actually has respect for the US’ national anthem and he should be given respect for that.

Really?

Take a look at this video. It’s of Usain Bolt, I think a few years ago. He’s being interviewed by a reporter, and he stops the interview to listen to our National Anthem.

In my book, he has a lot of class. A hell of a lot more than the US swimmers.

He’s a great Olympian, and his flair isn’t taken as showboating. Bolt is one of the nicest guys on and off the track.

No, he has gotten an awful lot of attention in the US media, mainly due to his color. If he were a white Austrian, would he get this level of acclaim? No.

Started when Jesse Owens was given more respect by the Nazis than he was accorded at home after his return.

Ashton Eaton became only the THIRD man to win the decathlon back to back Olympics and we don't hear SQUAT about him !

AND he won the last TWO world championships !

4 Straight Decathlon Gold Medals !

But hey, let's give more airtime to retarded swimmers who broke a bathroom door....

He’s from Jamaica, mon. I find him lighthearted and fun.
(And I’m old enough to be an “old curmudgeon”.)

Bolt is actually a nice guy. He has huge respect for his competition and the games. His flair is just something thrown in as an added bonus.NBC sports is your problem not Bolt

In other NON BREAKING news Bolt shows he has more respect for the American Anthem than the American President.

(file under true headlines you will never see)
