An Indonesian man who claims to be the longest living human in recorded history has described how he “just wants to die”.

Mbah Gotho, from Sragen in central Java, was born on December 31, 1870, according to the date of birth on his identity card.

Now officials at the local record office say they have finally been able to confirm that remarkable date as genuine.

Doubt it. Forgot to carry the 1. Or carried the one that wasn’t there.

The world’s started to seem strange to me, and I’m just in my early 50’s. I can’t imagine how bizarre it must be for someone 145 years old.

Sooo.....is this gonna knock Emma Martina Luigia Morano of Vercelli, Italy, out of the title? Guinness proclaimed her the oldest back in May, at 116.

I’m 54, it’s hard to believe how fast time flies isn’t it. 40 years gone by in a snap, at least it seems that way to me or it could just be an illusion because of memory. For example I remember clear as day spending 2 weeks at Boy scout camp in 1976. This guy though...he’s gone through almost a century and a half, that’s if this is real. I wonder if he can remember as far back as the early 1900s.

At a point in my early ‘50s I stated to look backward at my life and not forward. Now, fifteen years later, I see that there is almost nothing left of the world that I was born into.

I can certainly imagine. This is going to become more common,
living to what we would call an extreme old age. Many will consider their options. I’m not judging anyone on the topic, at least not right now, but I know if more than a few super-centarians begin to exist, chances are some will be clear enough in their minds to make their wishes known.

Some will want to stay for the ‘last inning of this double header’ whenever it should conclude, while others will decide when to say ‘game over’ and mean it.
This is the population I first think of that would benefit from driverless cars or buses, once they become reliable, senior citizen accessible and affordable.

Reminds me of an interview I saw decades ago of an old man in the Andes, in an area where people often live to over 100. They approached the oldest guy in the village who was in his field hoeing and stopped to talk to them. They told him they were trying to find out how he had lived so long.

“Why?”

“So we can tell other people the secret, and they can live to over 100 too.”

“Why would anyone want to be this old?” For him it was just more years of hard work.
