Back then it was hard not to laugh, talking about LSD.

Among those listening and laughing on the 1965 audio recording was Karl Menninger, one of the giants of psychiatry and co-founder of the Menninger Clinic, as he presided over an academic colloquium on hallucinogenic drugs.
The speaker on the tape, a medical student who had participated in LSD and peyote experiments, went on:
“I was still able to realize what was happening, I just wasn’t able to control it. Dr. Hammond (a researcher who also participated), on the other hand, was in total rational control of himself —”
“So he says,” Menninger interjected, to more laughter.
When Michael Rowland of Lee’s Summit listens to the tape, now part of the Kansas Historical Society archives, it sounds “like Kansas farmers around a potbellied stove in the winter.” But the jokes and loose banter are painful.
Rowland thinks his late brother, Vietnam veteran Robert Rowland, was propelled into a post-war life with schizophrenia by experimental LSD in the VA hospital in Topeka more than four decades ago. The Navy veteran was already mentally wounded when he went to the VA for help.
The LSD experiments were conducted by VA psychiatrist Ken Godfrey, one of the doctors who had presented on his research in the 1965 colloquium at the Menninger Clinic, then in Topeka.

It’s been years since the movie was seen. Never completely understood it, but it was strange enough to warrant remembering and there was no doubt at the time it was seen that our government would never hesitate to attempt such an experiment. Our government has never been trusted (personally) Our country is dearly loved; our government elites in office, not so much.
While the effects of LSD and its relatives show immediate and attributable manifestations, other "psychotropic" substances have brought on raging outcomes like mass shootings, suicidal episodes, and wrecked families that because of the permanent mental changesm are no longer treatable.
LSD and its obvious effects was left in the dust, but by 1971 all other kinds of mind-changers came onto the drugs market, making fortunes for their inventors, the certified psychiatrists who publicized them, and the GPs who were able to prescribe any blend the patient desired (and became irretrievably dependent on them).

The LSD story here is only the beginning of a long history of medical abuse through these drugs. No one alive in the America of today has escaped being touched by this great fraud.

Some of those LSD experiments were also with “magic mushrooms,” IIRC. More natural stuff. But what concerns me is the slathering of antianxiety and antidepressive stuff across the whole military involved in Afghanistan and Iraq. Things like Seroquel and Xanax and the ilk develop a dependency extremely hard to leave, and have been at the roots of antisocial horrors, according to what I’ve read.
