On an offshore bottom (reef) fishing trip a guy from Arkansas who had never fished salt water before brought a can of night-crawlers (large full-grown earthworms) along for bait...much to the amusement of the crew. The laughter died down once he started reeling in one red snapper after another...they rallied on him and he ended up with about a dozen in the five-pound range.

We didn’t weigh them, but back in elementary school in San Antonio texas, huge earthworms would come to the surface of the schoolyard after heavy rains.
I think they would have easily surpassed 16 inches. I always thought they just got filled up with water or something. I never have seen anything like it since.
