This used to be a typical childhood illness for baby boomers although, as an adult, I think it can have very bad health risks, especially for men.

When I was a kid, Mumps was one of the childhood diseases where, if one kid got them, the mothers would gather their kids together and have some Mumps parties to “get it out of the way”....

miss marmelstein :" This used to be a typical childhood illness for baby boomers although, as an adult, I think it can have very bad health risks, especially for men."

Yes , highly infectious -
Mumps can lead to infertility in men if contracted post puberty
Even those who have been immunized, may need a booster.
Of the 31 members of the SUNY New Paltz swim team, all had already been previously immunized . Unfortunate timing for possible spreading the infection around Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays - possibly putting other family members at risk.

Yes , quite true, especially when kids are young, generally in grammar school.

Yep, I recall being out of school for about a week ... can still see my teacher dropping off my homework.
It's also where I developed my love for all the great movies of the 30s and 40s.

Didn’t see any info in the article about the number of afflicted, if any, who’ve been previously vaccinated.

When mothers were home to do that. What do we subject our children to today so that mum doesn’t have to miss work...?

I’ve heard in adult males, it can cause sterility.

I had it as a kid.

Can you get it again if you had it already?

Had it back in 1969.

Here in Arkansas it has been introduced and spread by the Marshallese in Springdale. They are “casual” about getting their kids vaccinated and tend to live in large groups in houses with a bunch of beds all over. From there I suppose it goes to the kids of Hispanic illegals. So there is quite a bit of it spreading thru the public schools.

Very sad to hear so many college kids are getting it. I pray they can still have children!

Per the CDC, the MMR isn’t 100% effective against the mumps. Since the Theranos mess came to light, I’m wondering if there’s a prob with the vaccine.

Won’t really make a difference to the male part of the student body as it’s impossible to lose you balls when you’ve already been emasculated.
