Hmmm... Maybe it’s just me, but this story, and the quotes from the family, stink like the pantsuits hILLARY wears.
Very sad. Prayers for this family.
Oh... now I get it. It’s from CBS news. That means the story is fake.
Not to minimize this catastrophe, but I believe face-to-face bullying is often much worse than cyber-cr@p because the threat is imminent and tangible. What did our forebearers do when confronted with bullying?
It seems that we just have a very weak-kneed generation.
Pull. The. Plug.
Very simple to do. If social media has consumed your every thought and deed to the point you go and off yourself, then just don’t go there.
I’d wager there’s a lot more to this story than the report covers.
I’m always conflicted when these stories hit. On the one hand yes bullying is bad, bullies are bad, we really shouldn’t suffer dicks in society. On the other hand, life is tough, at some point in your life you WILL be dumped, fired, and bury loved ones, anybody that can’t survive some bullying is doomed. So I don’t know. It’s sad, and the bullies should be slapped around but she was bound to kill herself over something.
That means that the bully is someone known to her.
Jacqueline Vela told KPRC that she and her siblings have a good idea who may have been behind some of these attacks and have been assisting in the investigation.
Yup, it's likely someone the family knows and thought they could trust up until now.
I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t all just unplug and get off the facebook stuff and just live their lives. How could they not consider that? Homeschool her for her last year of highschool, for crying out loud. What a tragedy.
Liberal mindset.
The worst part of the story is that the father said “we asked for help...and help NEVER CAME.” HUH? Not to pile on, but this was his daughter. Why didn’t he take her phone away, or confront the scumbags directly? I am totally confused by their seeming helplessness.
Nobody can “push” a person to commit suicide, since that is an entirely voluntary choice.
Got the call one day from the school office. My son had gotten into a fight, and the school was prepared to suspend him and the other kid for 3 days. When I got there, I asked my son what happened. His response: "He had me backed against the wall. There wasn't anything else I could do, so I hit him. When he didn't go down, I hit him again, and he went down. That's when the teachers showed up."
The kid he fought was indeed the kid that had bullied him for at least a couple years. I made it clear at that point that, if the school chose to suspend my child, I would drag them through the mud so bad with a negative media campaign. After a couple hour discussion with the principle, it was determined my son acted in self defense, and he would not be punished.
When we left the school, I took my son out for ice cream. I'm happy to report that he is now 23 years old, and quite the sheep dog. :D
Cyberbullying? Is that on the internet? If so, then why go on the internet?
I was bullied in school. Badly. Even this many decades on I can tell you the name of the asshat - Tony Blake.
I finally the end of my very young rope - asked my dad what to do.
He gave a foot long ruler.
What am I supposed to do with this?
“Beat his ass to within an inch of his life” he said. “Bullies are bullies because they think they can get away with it. Show him he can’t keep it up.”
So, you won’t get mad?
NO, Dad said - you *start) a fight and I’ll get plenty steamed. If someone else starts the fight, I expect you to finish it.
The next time Tony started pushing - I told him - Don’t start.
Like the earlier story, we both wound up at the front office. I went back to class, Tony went to the doctor and then was expelled.
As for cyberbullies. I can only guess that filtering or blocks might be an answer. Cyberbully are the worst kind of physical **coward**.....
Cyberbullying...what a silly concept. If a kid’s peers (or strangers) are saying mean things the parents should just encourage the kid to ignore it and promise him/her that this, too, shall pass.Of course credible threats of physical harm are another matter.
So so sad. Poor child, and now her parents/family have to live with that image. Prayers to them.
If a child is being cyberbullied, you’ve got to change their phone number, allow them to use it for family only, and keep them offline.
If you have a mentally disturbed child, you’ve got to lock your guns.
