Maybe she was halfway joking. The statement reads as though she thinks the wood sculpture was sentient, meaning imbued with a native intelligence. It sounds as though she’s saying the wood sculpture ‘decided’ who to make sick and affected the most ‘threatening’ targets first. I think she was using
‘black humor’, common among co-workers.

It’s a beautiful piece, grand and formidable.
Alas, it is also a Trojan Horse which has later become a White Elephant. Set it outside in the open air, about an acre away from any walking trail or donate it to Burning Man.

I’ve made poops that were more artistic than that.
Just sayin’ . . .

"The offices only nurse was one of the 17 people affected by the cedar, suggesting (perhaps) that the wood had gained some level of sentience and was targeting potential threats first."
What the hell does that mean?
ROFLOL!

How did the "artist" survive making it?
And -- why the heck did the FBI think it had the right to spend so much of our money on a piece of junk for its entry hall?
~~~~~~~~~
Da*ned out-of-control, worthless bureaucrats!
Can someone list something the FBI has done right lately?
A butt ugly piece of so-called art which looks like it’s been eaten by termites.
The interior of the building is ugly as hell, too.
Yes, a certain percentage of the total cost. At the SeaTac airport they added a runway. On one of the huge new retaining walls there is a relief sculpture on all of the panels of the walls. Estimated at $1 million dollars. Oh - the artwork is in the secure area of the airport alongside a maintenance road far from the terminal or where planes might see it. It can be glimpsed by the public on side roads if you know where to peek between the bushes and chainlink fence 130 yards away.
Seems like the artist could have spent a little more on her project and put some varnish on it preventing anyone from having a problem. That's what I was thinking. Rather than spend $1.2 million carting it away, spend a few bucks and spray it with a sealing varnish. Problem solved.
What really made them sick was knowing a million dollars of their hard earn tax dollars went for it. Government waste needs to stop.
I know. I suppose some snowflake would hyperventilate about polyurethane fumes if they did that. Drop it in my yard. That would be a lifetime supply of firewood for me.
