I’m 53... I got it instantly in 98 during an allergic reaction that drove me out of the state I was in.
I went from silence to full volume in a single second, and it never went away.

After about the 3rd or 4th day, I thought I would surely get suicidal... it drove me literally batty for 2 months. Over time, I got more and more used to it. It hasn’t interfered too much with hearing except things near the same frequency.

I suppose that if it disappeared the same way it came on, the silence would drive me just as crazy for a while.

The problem itself is fluid buildup in the inner ear.
Taking diaretics (which dehydrate you) are reported to relieve symptoms somewhat, but I never bothered trying.

There is an over the counter ear health supplement which if you take every day offers a little hope for some.
I bought some, but never took it. (lol)

I occasionally hear news of possible breakthroughs.

Someone here has a pinglist that I’m on for tennitus sufferers.

Staying busy doing something or working always seems to make it more tolerable.

Were you in California, Massachusetts, or Illinois?
