PHILADELPHIA (CBS/CNN) — It was a story many wanted to believe: A terminally ill child gets his last wish to see Santa and dies in his arms.
But the Tennessee newspaper that ran it first now says it can no longer stand by the account and now there’s conflicting reports as to whether this happened.
The Knoxville News Sentinel story quickly went viral after it was published Sunday. USA Today republished the column, which was written by News Sentinel columnist Sam Venable. A host of national news outlets gave it additional coverage, including CNN, who spoke to Santa actor Eric Schmitt-Matzen about his interaction with the boy in his final moments.
“When you get to those pearly gates, you tell ’em you’re Santa’s No. 1 elf, and I know they’ll let you in,” Schmitt-Matzen recalled telling the boy.

Sigh. I had not heard the first reports.
But expose it as a fraud? And BOOM! All the news agencies have to pile on.

Actually, they cant confirm the boys identity....so it’s a lie. You know the MSM, must only report the truth.

Reads to me that he won’t give up the family’s name - likely S they need their privacy. Can’t fault him for that. At this point they can’t disprove it - they just can’t confirm it. Headline is overly aggressive in stating that it’s unraveling just because it can’t be second sourced.
I have only one question - who contacted the reporter first? If it was ‘Santa’ then find the nurse, if not then who was it
Or maybe this story is the fake news and the original story was real.
Who cares...we should just do good things to gelp those in need

“Santa” must be a Russian.
A Tennessee TV station said the visit happened in late October, and Santa told them about it at the time. They said those people also produced text messages sent at the time between Santa, his wife and friends which indicate he was pretty shook up by the event and they were trying to comfort him.

The thing that seemed off to me was the Santa, telling a reporter how wonderful he was. It sickened me. The Santa reminds me of a couple of rotten relatives I have.
Just looked at the Chick Fil A worker go fund me page. Now at $28 grand. that guy is going to feed a lot of homeless people
those diabolical Russians obviously planted this story to discredit Santa. They’ll stop at nothing.
I have no idea why anyone should be upset about this, considering the invention of Satan Claus does nothing but keep Jesus from children. What a different country it would be if Jesus was celebrated, and not a fat liberal lie to entice our children.
