Yep, no sacrificial bumpers or crumple zones on those guys. I probably would have been in a little over my head if I had had to do a total rebuild on mine. Would have been a great learning experience though — very simple 216 inline six with a single barrel carb and exactly one belt as I recall...
AMG? Dont tell me you have that sissy C class (j/k)
Hate to say it, but it's a CLA250 (bottom end) with the AMG handling but still has the sissy motor. 0-60 a blink over 6 seconds but holds the road like a 6-toed cat on a curtain.
Thinking of upgrading with the next one to get some more oomph.
Just messing with ya, but you should have seen the MB dealer guy who kept nagging me about the CLA, thinking I dont know my stuff. I told him “do I look like a BMW driver to you?” We both laughed.
No problem - I’ve built a few cars in my day - first was a ‘69 Firebird that ended up, according to the dyno, pushing 540 ponies out of the 350 short block. Love the feel of raw power, but as I get older, “peppy” is OK if it’s also fun to drive. Still thinking of upgrading but the CLA is fun for now - beats the hell out of the Camry I traded on it.

Southern Ohio if you are a white male and over 40 you own a Truck (Most under 40 also but many have motorcycles and/or muscle cars instead until they get older.) When my wife wanted to know why I was buying my 91 Ford f150 4X4 Supercab I explained:
"I am a white male and over 40 living it Southern Ohio, it is the law..."
You are correct - no comparison. I was more thinking of how the 2 liter turbo in the CLA (208 HP) is quicker than the 268 HP V-6 in the Camry and gets a lot better mileage. Not a pony car but it’s deceptive in acceleration and how fast you’re going - of course you already know that in spades ;-)
I had a second-hand Volvo S90 back in college. It got rear ended at the back so the owner wanted to get rid of it. I had it fixed a bit cosmetically because it’s hard to get chicks if your car sucked. Same thing; 2 liter turbo and funny thing, the acceleration beat a Porsche S whom I raced after a party. Fast forward, I got a beater MB S class that belonged to a waiter who couldn’t fix a problem which i found out was replacing one sensor costing $30.
I only got into Volvos because my uncle owned a couple. He kept insisting I get a station wagon back in college. I asked him why do you keep nagging me about the station wagon. He told me “so you could get laid at the back, it’s roomy”. I guess he was speaking from experience.
