If you are spanking your children, you have been too lazy to learn how to be a parent.

Mooslims excepted, of course.

Got to get their attention before you can reasonably and logically point out the errors in their ways.

Before children hit The Age of Reason - about age 3, I think a swat to the buttocks to get their attention is warranted. Same goes for dog training and breaking horses.

I can remember the TWO times my Dad ever hit me. Both were warranted and both saved me from bodily harm.

Thanks, Dad! I’m so GLAD you didn’t go to the Arthur McGowan School for Loser Parents, LOL! ;)

Just yankin’ your chain. But, I think you’re painting with too broad a brush.

If spanking is used for anything more than getting the child’s attention, you have failed to learn parenting. Spanking is not a useful first resort. It is only useful if used judiciously when the child’s “shell” has to be penetrated to get the disciplinary message through.

Post-election, the streets were full of spoiled brats who were spared the rod.

Spanking reinforces the point that there is a time when you can lose your patience and it is warranted.

That doesn’t promote self-control which is what your child needs to know.

Spanking has its place.

God’s Word says so and I’ll go with it rather than your opinion.

And for the record with four children three probably only had 3-4 spankings between them. The youngest however had a few more. He liked to do the in your face direct disobedience type stuff.

Does anybody care that the Bible is clear on this issue?

Ever raised any kids??? No??? That leaves you totally unqualified to even have an opinion...But since you have one anyway, how is it that a priest goes against the clear advice of God???

“If you are spanking your children, you have been too lazy to learn how to be a parent. “

LOL

In the South decent people still believe in spanking and we teach basic manners, too. I recently encountered a Yankee who believes spanking is child abuse and that saying basic “yes ma’am” and “yes sir” belittles the child and hurts their self-esteem.

Not in favor of spanking, but also definitely not in favor of the government telling people how to raise their own children.

Pffft.
We have a generation of kids now to show that this is bunk - I've seen enough to know this is true.

I'll bet very few of the current crop of college snowflakes ever got their butts warmed over their misbehavior.

Actions have consequences.

All actions have consequences.

Some consequences are more disagreeable than a “Timeout”, restricted TV or Smartphone time.

Neglecting to teach your children this basic fact is terrible child abuse.

Bottom line - Justice, Jurisprudence and Punishment, whether in the family or in the larger society, MUST be guided by Biblical principles.

Proverbs 13:24 ESV

Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

Hebrews 12:11 ESV

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Proverbs 23:13-15 ESV

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol. My son, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad.
