This looks like an Affirmative Action hire to me.

Joseph has just one year experience at Defensive Coordinator, and his statistics at Miami are not impressive.

Miami ranked in the Top 10 in forced fumbles and interceptions.

But they ranked 30th in rushing yards allowed per game and ranked 29th in net yards allowed per game.

All his other stats are ranked 14th to 22nd.

Miami's defense lost 4 very good players to free agency and injury, but all teams lose good players.

To my eye, Vance Joseph's defense looked completely average in most of his games.

“This looks like an Affirmative Action hire to me.”

It is the NFL after all. If you can’t stop the run in football, you’ll lose every game.

I have a hard time envisioning Elway making a hire on an affirmative action basis.

Drat. I was hoping for Kyle Shanahan. We already have a good defense. What we need is an offense!

This is incorrect. As a Dolphins fan. Vance Joseph had to put up with STIGMATA to his defense this year, to the point where he had 1 starter in the secondary by the playoffs, lost 5 starters overall, including his best player in Reshad Jones.

Vance Joseph got the Hire due to his leadership qualities, and the command of respect he gets from his players. He is beloved by all down here, and we are sad to see him go, but wish him well. We knew he wouldn’t be here long.

This looks like an Affirmative Action hire to me.

John Elway has managed a team that has had two head coaches take his team to the Super Bowl in the last three years. He knows how to find and hire good coaches. Vance Joseph is one of the hottest coaching candidates this offseason, and if the Broncos hadn't hired him, another team would have. But Elway, a man who know far more about football coaching than you or I, never let Joseph leave Denver to go to another interview. That should be more than enough to demonstrate that the accusation that this is an "Affirmative Action hire" is absurd.

Congratulations to Vance Joseph and to the Broncos.

STIGMATA?

I'm a Dolphins fan as well, but I'm not happy with the fact that their defense was ranked 30th in the NFL this year. I'm surprised Vance Joseph received such interest, given the Dolphins' abysmal defense.

Sorry, guys, I still stand by my Affirmative Action claim.

Vance Joseph has coached in the NFL for 12 years.

One year ago he was a Defensive Backs coach.

I agree that the Dolphin defense was limited by injuries and free agency.

However, Miami gave up 31-35-30 points in their last three games.

Six weeks ago, the Ravens scored 38 against Joseph, which was the most points the Ravens scored all season.

Is this the new criteria for a head coach?

The Broncos hired Joseph because he would have been brilliant except for the injuries and free agency?
